you're right. The worldwide sum in nonsense - 10%. As I said, I work with the US market and $0.5T out of $30T might happen this year.

we also tried Asahi on M2 Ultras but we had big performance issues on the DBs compared to Mac OS.

that's the thing. latency to RAM is everything. I would take 10x lower bandwidth in RAM vs 100x better latency from CPU to RAM. The only x86 CPU that does this is the Xeon Max: https://www.intel.com/content/www

The only server that actually matched the performance of a Mac Studio was XEON Max series (formerly codenamed Sapphire Rapids HBM) with 64GB of integrated memory into the CPU package. the latency between the CPU and RAM is simply too big in

yes. we have PCs. AFAIK, the cheapest PC that compares for my workflow is an EPYC/NUMA or another very expensive CPU/latency optimized server. We have a complex stack, with clients running unique queries that we can't predict

But it's so slow. Why not just buy a new MacBook Pro every 2 years with more RAM and a faster CPU? The machine makes us money. I mean, I don't know what you guys are doing.

I was being generous. These are just the pure bandwidth speeds. For my workflow when the CPU has to go back and forth with the RAM hudreds of times with unique queries, SoCs are hundreds times faster not 5 times.

M silicon/SoC is the best thing to happen to computing, for me. I have 64GBs of RAM in my Macbook Pro. I load a 48GB DuckDB to RAM and run real-time, split-second, complex, unique analysis using Polars and Superset. Nothing like this w

hearing aids, in general, have the some problems and they operate on similar principles - sound is isolated physically, and the outside world is transmitted digitally to the ear/ANC when needed.

I hear you but we are a minority. Apple will demolish the market when Gen Alpha grows up. Look at what phones are used to film at concerts by the crowd in the US. it's hard to find a single non-iPhone. Also for a more unbiased take, lo

I just want a laptop that has almost zero latency between the CPU and RAM and at least 300GB/s RAM bandwidth for data science. Not much choice there, unfortunately.

My beef with the Framework laptops is that their memory bandwidth is 5 to 8 times slower (depending on the generation, CPU, and RAM) than that of a $1,500 refurbished MacBook Pro M1 Max 64GB.

I know a bit unrelated but I leased the top-of-the-line Mazda MX-5 for $350/month for 3 years. Lease prices can be amazing. Such a fun car to drive.
