Yes and no. No institution (maybe 1920s Gottingen?) ever matched Bell Labs in their glory days.

Yep. Sometimes I see these type of comments online (mostly on libertarian leaning subs in Reddit for example) and the commentators fail to grasp the error behind their reasoning - not everything in this world is a zero sum game .

This is just not true, and sounds like someone talking about a field about which they have no idea. NSF mostly for example doesn't give a shit about your results, all it matters to them you publish something (productivity). I have work

See that's the problem. It takes a hugely asymmetrical effort to counter obvious bullshit than to spew it.

Yeah - seeing the ascendance of ARM in recent years Nvidia entering the processor market seems a very logical step. In fact Jensen Huang himself hasn't ruled out the possibility. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/j

Do you see Nvidia offering ARM based CPUs in the near future? And maybe a complete unit with a CPU and dGPU along with unified memory?

Is executive power in US this unchecked? If anything, Trump has shown how vulnerable security wise the unitary executive model is.

The glue layers speedups are really bothering me. I absolutely fail to understand how a data science heavy language in 2020 can have such convoluted parallel processing. Dask, numba, joblib all are unfinished projects and absolutely not hea

I read the thread, it's from 2016. But hasn't numba made some big progress in JITting CPython?

Yes. In fact the thinking is that increasingly grid batteries will be sodium-ion, because weight is not that big of a deal. Additionally, we have enormous quantities of sodium available, which is why it's predicted to be significantly

TV has also become shit in India. Indian news is now on a whole new level of shitshow - leaving even the US behind.

What's even more broken is that impact factors and h-indices -- all that data analytics we use to measure science is fundamentally broken. They are worse than useless

Max we are looking at 1000 TWh, that's two days of global energy demand. Rule of thumb we need 300gm of sodium per kWh. That's 3 billion metric tons. Which is a lot - but for the entire global energy demand it's peanuts

Why do you need increased storage density for grid level storage?

Yes. Also for grid- level storage space and weight are not at a premium - so cheap, comparatively in efficient solutions like sodium-ion batteries or redox flow systems is where the field is moving to.

Also disco, when it first appeared on the scene was strongly associated with an LGBT audience, and the Moral Majority crusaders then absolutely denigrated it. Good art is by definition subversive, and you won't find subversion in the B

The past decade has been acknowledged as the Golden Age of Television. Art evolves - and Breaking Bad is as much art as Anna Karenina. There is a very irritating snootiness in the review that only thinks classical music as art, and just pas

Even with music for example - look at what indie artists are doing. Touareg rock for example, or Altin Gun for Turkish folk psychedelia, Newen Afrobeat who are combining Chilean folk with Afrobeat or Coke Studio in Pakistan will be marvelle

But isn't this a subtle diss against capitalism or a purely market based system? A free market results in _efficient_ allocation of capital, resulting in a _fragile_ allocation.
