Hypothetical roadmap for next 10 years: Binary FF DLP --> Prime FF DLP --> EC in prime FF --> RSA? --> ElGamal? --> ...

Binary fields are weaker than prime fields, but "I think" there are always shortcuts. Finding these shortcuts are hard and some good topics for future research in cryptography.

I completely agree. My real unpopular opinion: designing a secure asymmetric cipher is much harder than symmetric.

The end of DLP (over any field) is the end of ECC.

EDIT: there isn't any unpopular opinion :-) Qs: What about AES? RSA first or ECC?

EDIT: 10 years without quantum computer. I am an optimist! A: because this record is on binary fields.

TIL: “The best theory is inspired by practice. The best practice is inspired by theory.” (by Don aka "Yoda") An unpopular opinion: time until the end of ECC = 20 years Good links: [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki&

Thanks! I didn’t explain my opinion as strong as I could have. In academia, your biggest problem to do great research is "publish or perish", but in industry, as an employee, your biggest problem is your company's short goals

If you want to build something, write code or make money, industry is a better place. I talk about doing science for science.

I am a master's student, I think many times about academia vs industry for "research". Academia has a great advantage over industry: freedom, never dismiss it.

Similar question: based on Zooko's triangle, decentralization will reduce the security of DNS. How secure are blockchain based naming systems like Handshake, ENS, Unstoppable, Blockstack, etc?
