True, though the cost of hardware isn't really that much, especially if you're ok with buying Behringer. A lot of the costs of studio setups used to be expensive mixers/reel to reel tape machines and that is certainly better

That’s part of it, though it can also be about having something that’s fixed rather than infinitely configureable and the mental muscle memory that results.

As someone that went the other way (100% software to mostly analogue modular) I’d have to disagree. Part of the pleasure of using analogue hardware synths is that you’re forced to treat them like a musical instrument, rather than like you’r

Yeah, on stage you're fighting with adrenaline, shitty monitoring, screaming audiences and it's usually a pale imitation of what happens during jamming/rehearsing where you actually develop the songs.

I think that's subjective. It probably doesn't sound like a live performance would, but it does probably reflect fairly well what you'd hear if you were in the room with them rehearsing. Listening to the album again now it&#x

Oh that's cool! I remember hearing about this mix at the time and wondering how it would sound. I much prefer it, way more in keeping with the indie 'live' vibe of the rest of the album and it feels darker/more menacing

Yes but if you're making a movie that costs $200m then it needs to target the average of the planets expectations for a movie to make money. Any divergence from that ends up confusing some of your target audience. Sure this will end up

If you are making a product that has an intended market of billions of people, it needs to have incredibly universal appeal. This is in direct opposition with producing a memorable piece of art.

Yes, this is where I came from. I spent a great deal of time building stuff in Reaktor/Max and software is still useful for some things. However dedicated hardware (which granted is an expensive hobby) wins on intangibles like happy ac

So this is of course very cool, but I would say that one of the main appeals of a hardware modular is the tactile nature of it. It feels very different to experiment with vs plugging virtual cables in software.

At my work the people who moved far away to own a bigger house enjoy WFH - they have more space to isolate themselves during the working day, and a long commute they can skip. I have a short cycle into work which is one of the highlights of

Also many of the people mentioned are more ‘anti-west’ than ‘anti-war’. Not really questioning that this editor appears biased but let’s call it what it is, which is basic tribal left/right politics.
