Hi, although it works with phones, would you be interested in smart home/building applications? We build open-source smart switches/outlets/modules ( https://crownstone.rocks ) and would love to integrate with your

Then, would the computer not need to listen rather than broadcast? PS: I know quite a lot about Bluetooth, although mostly about BLE. I don't see a reason why the device should be broadcasting anything. If it is scanning for BLE device

Yes, interesting man. I encountered him on a workshop by Bert Kappen on stochastic optimal control. It shows that there are different control strategies for different noise levels separated by phase transitions. I checked Friston again. He

Yeah, I read that as well. I found the paper: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/biorxiv/early/2018/12/20/503... "Avalanches were analyzed in terms of size (S, the number of spikes), and dura

Mmm. Without the distinction between top-down attention and bottom-up saliency, this is impossible to interpret. For example Itti, Koch, and Niebur have papers on a simple attention model: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/documen

This article does not have much info. What exactly does exhibit criticality? As correctly stated, all kind of phenomena can exhibit power laws. Avalanches on a sandpile are sized as a power law. Typical example of self-organized criticality

Or a sponsored and unsponsored section. The only thing you pay for is for being higher up in the sponsored pane. No need for tracking. No conversion clicks tracked. Only higher on the sponsored listing.

Can someone explain the "hierarchical decision process"? If it after K repeats of a stimuli it starts to do Y rather than X, this only means that there is a state variable that gets over a threshold. A capacitor so to say. Or woul

It is also nice for yourself to do. One time I created this visualization using vis.js of the Legendre transform: https://www.annevanrossum.com/blog/2015/08/08/legendre-trans... It made it click for myse

Yeah, then you've more data. It will work better because even if it doesn't see movements you know the door hasn't opened so the person has to be in there still. I think you will run into trouble if there are more people in y

Definitely! It's the only open source smart speaker I know. Here in Holland there's also the Homey, but they locked most of it. It's benefit is that you can run local connections. Even the Google Local SDK does not support BL

For that Ubuntu Core seems more appropriate. It's the kind of tooling that is a lot of work even though it might not seem like it at first sight.

Is it possible to adopt this as a manufacturer? For example, can we deploy easily new functionality? Can we push security updates?

I bet Linux is not even possible. How do you force windows to be at the same location across different systems. I use i3. There are plenty of other tiling managers. This is not gonna be cross-platform. Just my two cents.

Yes, that's indeed nowadays happening. In practice if they cancel two days before you arrive and you have fly to another continent to stay somewhere, it still sucks. Add to that for example a fair like CES and no normally priced hotel

Note also that if a host cancels on you at the last moment, you can't give a negative review at all. That would never happen with a hotel.

If this would be our situation, it would be a firmware update for our smart outlets in the field. You definitely want to make sure that updates are backwards compatible. We use a mesh and once there was an incompatibility on the mesh protoc

Sure, but why the big difference between Wifi and Bluetooth? You can reach your Wifi devices from your browser. People do not argue that they want a separate application to do so. They use the same application to reach the internet versus t

Solving it analytically seems to use deep nets and Monte Carlo tree search [1]. Some additional structure to deep learning and you're done. Manipulation is the harder problem. It's like complaining that a juggler can't count

Shameless plug: we - at Crownstone - have an open source plug or built-in switch with with wake-up functionality. I don't know if it's too smart, but if it is, I'm fine with you flashing adjusted firmware to make it dumber. :

Last week I read that significant plastic is released in nature by tire wear. Electric cars are often heavier then their gasoline equivalents. I wouldn't be surprised if they wear faster and pollute more microplastics. [1] https:/

Just like a Laplace transform maps differential equations into algebraic equations and convolution into multiplication - or Fourier for that matter - it's not so hard to imagine that there are encryption maps (that are hard to invert)

It now also reminds me of the controversial Moon Mode on the Huawei P30 Pro. On smartphone cameras you might now incorporate things in the lens rather than in the firmware. Be it improved lunar pictures or snapchat/instagram filters...
