Not sure about better, just different since it's strictly an MTA. But perhaps you can also use Fastmail as an MTA only? Biggest benefit I can think of is with SES, Amazon would never see any of your incoming mail. Well, unless you repl

If you're planning to offload to a third party anyway, why don't you instead first try routing mail though AWS SES? You'll definitely get better delivery and at least you'll be able to control the rest of the stack.

Yeah, knowing my SO's location is super important for multiple reasons imo... Primarily safety and knowing how long it will take to get back from someplace (or how long I can keep messing around with stuff at home). I'm sure there

If you connect OwnTracks to an mqtt broker, there is a feature to track friends. But I haven't played with that part so ymmv.

I guess I never considered self-hosting as not a hobby? Web apps with modern stacks are usually pretty complex, so hard for me to imagine someone just casually jumping in as a non-hobby and not running into big problems at some point. Or

The issues with large clusters you've surfaced are ones I've never once experienced in my homelab. I'm already an experienced devops (?) engineer so the transition to k8s only took a few weeks and a couple sleepness nights wh

I would argue the myriad of alternatives you've suggested as alternatives produce significantly more overhead. You linked Swarm CA renewal operations; this is maybe 1/50 of the functionality of cert-manager. Is there a product lik

Why only Google problems? Why not homelab problems where I'm managing upwards of 20 apps and I don't want to come up with custom automation to do things like cert renewal, tls termiantion, dynamic storage, and disaster recovery? W

This feels potentially disingenuous. Why are all the graphs only until mid-April/May? Of course states with higher density populations are going to see more spread/death/hospitalizations. Counts per 100k people don't sho

I have a similar experience with T4xx laptops. I think most likely answer is every engineer at Red Hat is given a thinkpad T or P series so I figure plenty of them contributed fixes for sleep, power, etc. Dell obviously has Linux certified

Anecdotally, I've tested this by having a network monitor traffic throughput and once a video is playing audio only, there is a noticeable drop in throughput which goes back up when you pull the video back up. Tested this a while ago s

As another commenter mentioned here, sailors usually have family and/or relatives that they call in addition to myriad other ways of communicating to the outside world. There is no way that a breakout of COVID-19 could remain a secret.

That functionality is actually there. For any website that you visit where your phone also has an app to open those links in, a little Android head will appear in the address bar you and you can touch that to open with the app. Not intuitiv

To be fair, it seems like there's been a lot of innovation and miniaturization in the LIDAR space in the past year or two. Even if Tesla wanted to preemptively install LIDAR for future proofing, I'm guessing that addition to the c

The gps on my phone begs to differ. You can (sometimes) acquire enough gps locks to get a signal and subsequent gps data like speed, position, etc. Worth a shot trying because there's very few other times where you'd be able to se

A lot of responses I see on any Firefox HN post talk about bugs/issues which have [mostly] been addressed by Mozilla. This includes separate processes per tab which came out just a few versions ago. The problem is that these issues hav

Without regulatory oversight and third party auditing of certified access logs, you can't really be sure what was or was not accessed. Of course, if you imposed those kind of requirements on Facebook, that would take a significant amou

I will concede that Ansible does not have the best error messages. I've been working with it for a few years now, and knowing the true source of the errors has taken a while just because they're not always very straightforward. Th
