I have firstinitiallastname@gmail.com and I get all sorts of interesting stuff from other people. Someone even signed up for their bank account using my address and I got all of the emails for that without any sort of verification.

Nobody knows who owns the rights to the No One Lives Forever series, but something like three or four companies have stated they will fiercely defend it as if they do if someone tries to do anything with the IP.

I have a Garmin Instinct, the battery life is insane. Using the GPS for on average an hour a day I get a week to a week and a half on one charge. Without using the GPS at all it can go 3-4 weeks.

Maybe the early 2010s? SSDs were ubiquitous and cheap enough for at least the OS and the most commonly used applications and games. Around that time CPU performance plateaued for a while. There were improvements but nothing like going from

Really interesting read. It's cool that a company like Crucible was willing to consider a proposal for something as expensive, time consuming, and potentially fruitless as a new steel from essentially someone off the street.

I spent the $10 on Melvor and it's far and away the best idle game I've ever played. The upfront cost and no microtransactions at all means the game can be balanced around actually being fun.

You could see that with how YouTube Rewind evolved over the years. It started out highlighting popular videos from original YouTube creators and at some point became Jimmy Kimmel doing Fortnite dances.

Stephenson's Fall, or Dodge in Hell deals with this extensively. It's even more meandering than most of his work and I would not overall call it one of his best but the parts dealing with whether or not an uploaded copy of someone

The Prestige (major spoilers to follow) has the same idea. A stage magician invents a trick that appears to instantly teleport him across the room and nobody knows how he does it. The "trick" is that a duplicate is created and the

Early on version updates were significant. Big, important changes adding nice features and noticeably improving the user experience (I remember one Android update where they put a lot of focus on improving the UI responsiveness for example)

What always amazes me is how small development teams often were, even through the N64/PS1 era. Flagship games from major publishers would have software development teams in the single digits, sometimes just 2 or 3. And they were remark

Google will automatically add meeting invites to your calendar even if you don't accept them. You have to disable multiple options in both Gmail and Google calendar to stop this from happening. It is default behavior.

The devlogs they've done showing off the new UI for the Steam version makes it look really promising. The keyboard interface is inconsistent and a complete mess in some cases and they're making a lot of that mouse driven.
