I have seldom done it well. Normally one person rushes off to "just quickly try this idea", without really explaining it ("just wait a minute, it will be quicker to just type it in than explain it") so the other person is limited to basical

You have a point. But 90% of the lessons are relevant to any C-like language. It uses Javascript sure, but I think it does teach the beginnings of how to code. Also I disagree on the last paragraph. The topics you mentioned are far less use

Especially in Germany. Now I disagree with excessive socialism, and sure, refusing unemployment benefit would be one way of making a statement against it, but I think living it up on the generous unemployment benefit, and lording it in fron

Signed up for this and AI. Anyone know how many hours per week will be required? I am finishing up my 3 year distance learning MSc this month, so will have around 20 hours per week for these two courses. Hope that will be enough.

I read this e-book when it first came out. It is excellent. Probably the best thing I read that year.

Of course it is not a "smartphone security flaw" at all. I am just submitting this as you might find it an amusing example of how journalists deal with "hacker" stories.

So what was the actual math error? If it was mentioned in the article, I missed it.

debian still seems to have "dir". It is an actual binary executable too, and not a script, alias, symlink or builtin like I thought it was.

I tried powershell. Seems like a lot to learn before it is actually better than cmd. I mostly just use cygwin's bash as my cli on windows.

Well I use my pseudonym wherever I can. I would like to have it on my passport etc, but I cannot without legally changing it. I guess legal ID is less important than most people think, as I am able to use my pseudonym reasonably well. And a

I support this site as I also use a "pseudonym" (I call it a real name, but I will use pseudonym in this post to avoid confusion) almost everywhere. The only place my legal name is found these days is passport, birth certificate, forms rela

You mostly need engineers who think converting between 15 different types of strings is a useful use of developer time.

I have spent around half my career focussing on C++, my current job is half C++ (generally just maintaining old programs, or writing new ones that use old libraries) and half higher level languages (generally preferred over C++). I think th

I am drawing this from the semiconductor, telecommunications, automotive, healthcare technology, and travel domains. It doesn't really seem that relevant though as software developers are not tied to domains like say hardware engineers, or

Yeah the sort of places that split dev into front end and back end will pay less. Kind of like the places that split software development into analysis, design and typing in. The typists always get paid less, that is why I always insist on

Why? How are honest values more "noisy" than faked ones? I mean if it turns out that more programmers work in places that have San Francisco salaries, then those values will dominate anyway. If people in other smaller cities with lower sala

I am in Germany, and 70k EUR seems average for someone with experience and/or specialist skills. (Of course less experienced or "motivated" developers will be on a bit less than that). 70k would be low for anyone in a leadership role. Of co
