Sensationalism. Sure the recent reports are that it is currently disjointed. But we have seen these reports for every prior version of Windows. How Windows 7 was so confusing for consumers, etc. All it's going to take is a few small chan

This is annoying, but I think using a 16:9 or 16:10 device as a tablet would make it so you could only comfortably use it one way. Not good news if all you do is watch video on it though.

The developer also has the lowest amount of money in the game generally. Anyone can start a hardware company, but it takes a lot of money, time, etc to make money like apple does on things. Apps probably have much much faster ROI. $12 x 1

Kind of scummy, I didn't know it would be $5 until AFTER I put my sms/email in. I don't think they'll use it, but they could potentially gather interest lists this way. Edit: To be clear, it states that it's $5 on the first page, but I had

This replaces iChat when you install it. For me it's nearly he same, the buddies window is exactly the same. Although they changed up how messages display. You used to be able to not have windows grouped together (i.e. you could drag/drop

I first read this as any book that was sold by Amazon, but it's just the 'Amazon Press'. While it might be somewhat of a big deal for the authors involved, it probably won't be much of an issue for anyone else.

Other than the talk about tailing the logs, and using the three servers, there isn't much revealed to why their delivery rate is so high.

Yeah that's a good breakdown of the different approaches. We started using DI, and then had a rule that all unit tests need to be isolated. Which means mocking everything they touch. For small methods it makes them very fragile, although t

I've found that the higher level the test (i.e. unit -> integration -> functional) the better they catch things, but the harder it is to figure out what broke. For instance we had a rule at a place I worked, where we needed to have

By the time it's out it probably won't be, sadly. I hope they get lots of community add-ons (cases, etc). For $50 you could have a very nice airplay video/audio device.

This was my first reaction. People visiting the web and seeing all kinds of SOPA/PIPA hate, now will automatically assume these same guys support SOPA. Better would be to redirect them to a page that says, THIS GUY SUPPORTS SOPA/PIPA. Best

Article won't disclose why 12 girls suddenly developed tourettes. It appears they have answers, but because of HIPAA, they aren't releasing the details. This is a good thing. If the parents want to get together and talk, they will. The fi

Re: Code Screenings are obsolete. I think this is true for some code screenings. However my most recent job, they sent me their own framework, and I needed to make code within that. You're not going to find that on google. Sure I could

The thing that could be worrying here, is that it could clutter up github with people trying to game it to get a job, instead of actually caring about the project their contributing to. It seems that in it's current state this could work ve

To that end, there is more than just perfection of code. It's great to see a developer write perfect 'debt-free' code, however sometimes it's more valuable to get the code out the door in a simpler easier state. A lot of developers I've wo

Too much money, don't really need it, will never use the wifi portion, etc. Which is probably true. The nest on the other hand adjusts to outside temp, it's sensors, etc. She still thinks it's solving a problem we don't have...

That is a really good idea, plug in something down by the furnace (or use the C-wire hookup there), make it handle communication over a couple of wires, power over another, and then the box converts it back to 'legacy' wiring on the other e

My furnace takes 2-3 minutes to turn on after shorting the wires, although the pulse method could potentially be bad for it as well. I would have ran the wire, but my wife was adamently opposed to getting a wifi thermostat, but I bet she'd

I really want to get one, but apparently there are issues when you don't have a C-wire. Basically a power wire from the furnace. I just finished my basement, and the house only came with 4 wire, and I didn't run 5+ wire before I finished

The array/sorting things are sometimes just things developers will have to deal with until someone makes new methods and deprecates the old ones. I used to think that the code base needed to be perfect, no extra cruft, only code that's nece

This list seems a bit tired. There are a couple of things in here that are actual issues, but they seem small in scope, and easy to work around. As for the is_a changes, I think it's probably for the better, as they say, you have to break s

I think some of these points could be made about any contract developers. The biggest issue I've seen is that if you don't have things fully spec'ed/flushed out, it becomes a mess. With a couple of committed developers working together no m

It seems that a 30 day rental window should be cost less than that. For a book costing $14, it still costs 60% of the price to rent it. Even blockbuster at their prices was 25-30% of a new release price, with red box being 10% or so.

Pretty good list, I was originally worried if it would be all complex games based on the site it was from. Blokus is probably the cheapest one on the list, and easiest to find. Ticket to Ride/Settlers of Catan are all around great games (
