Zram support for a block device is quite misleading, since there are no automatic mechanisms for enabling this. You have to build your own daemon to scan pages and take action on them. Zswap doesn't have that problem.

Zswap is even better than that. Give it a try sometime.

The same power that the datacenters need to run off of? Brilliant move! If somehow it targets power that hurts a lot of people without killing itself, that would not impede a citizen with a backhoe from cutting the fiber to the datacenter.

There are so many practical problems with rogue AI being a threat to humanity that are still not even decades away with being solved that it should be a serious concern for no one. There's plenty to be afraid of regarding AI from a fin

Serious biblical scholars don't put much stock in the Genesis account being literal. It was written in classical Hebrew's poetic verse. The core of what it's getting at can still be true without it being literal. I have yet t

Pity they still haven't finished adding support for proper database backends. SQLite is the source of all my problems with Jellyfin as it buckles under the weight of my library, behaves badly on CoW filesystems, and prevents scaling my

Curious as an outsider: what sorts of problems are there in the Nim world, and why would things improve by switching to Go?

It would be a different matter if certain measures were taken to secure it better. The cameras should not send any data to private parties. Access to their data should only be granted by a court order. Such court orders should be a matter o

That's not quite true. VoLTE was an optional part of 4G in the beginning. I had one of the gaming ASUS phones that shipped with 4G, but no VoLTE. 6 months after getting it, the US phone carriers conspired to make VoLTE mandatory for co

The latest FUTO works just as well as Gboard for me. Their somewhat recent update to their swiping library really changed the game, and their voice recognition is also pretty decent.

I have it. It's far too slow to be useful, and it's not the hardware's fault. GTK and Libhybris are bad separately and hot garbage together. This problem won't be going away while the hardware is relevant.

If voter ID was accompanied by mandatory free ID services at the polls, it could be a net good. Short of that, it's definitely more harm than good.

You could probably just use an extension that unloads inactive tabs from RAM, and maybe another that closes tabs that haven't been touched in over a week. Between those and an extension that closes duplicate tabs, it's pretty easy
