This was posted a week ago in /r/china and we removed it for the same reason, it was cold in Shanghai yet in that video everyone is in T-shirts and it's cloudless. We reckon it to be from the north by the accents Can't d

Issue is, bribe them for what? They don't really have any means to get food either and if they were to look the other way while you slipped out of the community you'd find every shop closed. They don't take monetary bribes, b

Chinese captchas can be much worse when you're on domestic websites, to the point where I need to get my wife to solve it for me because I'm not sure which character doesn't have a specific stroke

There are some very American ones such as the fire hydrants that really catch me out as someone who's not American, I can only imagine what it's like for those with English as a second language.

I made quite a bit of money as a freelancer at the start of covid setting up Jitsi servers for clients - it isn't easy... especially when you start to have multiple servers etc

I'm in a restrictive country that's extremely difficult to get stuff to, I don't have the standard payment methods and instead all these internal only services. There is absolutely no point in me watching those because I coul

The -100 shadowban is mostly subreddit dependent, and done via automoderator by the mods of most larger subreddits. An actual admin shadowban does happen and they are employed, but I don't think they're particularly hidden. As a m

A lot of Chinese cloud providers like Aliyun will only allow pay and go, because there’s no way to recursively bill My own instances go down all the time when I forget to ‘top up’ the account

Arch is brilliant for packaging things up, it's my daily driver and while it drives me mental sometimes I still use it on the laptop for work. However my main desktop these days is a bog standard Win10... probably showing my age that I

I have a 2000W bike in China, I modified it from a legal 800W bike. It goes 80 with the limiter off but I don't get to use it in non urban environments much.

You would not use QQ these days, it would be Wechat instead which pretty much everyone online in China has. QQ died around 2013

I've been on both China Telecom and Unicom, in Shanghai though so YMMV in other places. I've heard Beijing is much worse for connecting through Telecom. My throughput isn't bad, I can very occasionally get up to 2mb/s do

The connection from the mainland to Taiwan is really bad. Also Alibaba has reasonable international connections into and out of China, in the HK region for example I have a ping of 40 and have been running my own VPN for some time.

Here in China I can get most of my apps from other sources but require play services for some. It's annoying because if my VPN isn't on or it isn't working well one day the battery usage kills me.
