All you have to do these days is put the word "fuzz" in your prompt and the AI will say it can't do it due to cybersecurity restrictions. At least that's my experience with Codex.

No one said people shouldn't accept responsibility for bad decisions and accept consequences. My contention is that the consequence of a bad decision shouldn't be condemnation. You've had the opportunity to actually take acco

You're avoiding saying what you actually think society is for while saying I'm selfish, and then bailing on a discussion you started by calling people you don't know psychopaths. I didn't say anything about you personall

It's a very capitalist viewpoint. But if not that, then what's the point of society?

You said "I just post facts". It is not a fact that the Rust community is lobbying to make programming in C illegal. Do you understand why some people in that community might consider that trolling?

You just posted this troll: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49097320

No one is lobbying to make programming in C illegal, let alone the Rust community.

Can I install Fil-C on Windows without WSL or Cygwin?

> In the end of the day, all that outcry about capitalism is the classic "I made the wrong decisions and I want society to bail me out of them". What's the point of society if not being a buffer for bad individual decision

I don't understand your reasoning; LLMs and programming languages are different things. Like humans, LLMs use programming languages as tools, so the existence of LLMs doesn't obviate programming languages.

by ModernMech 3mo ago
How can you say that when millions of non-programmers are using AI to write programs all of a sudden? The problem isn't with non programmers it's with the languages they've been given are usually written by people who are kee

It’s reactive programming in a functional style. I wouldn’t call it functional reactive programming though because that’s usually used to describe more robust languages like older versions of Elm before TEA.

I guess they’re saying their shipped code is DOA?

It means "don't misuse parts of the language in ways that circumvent best practices" one of which is "keep unsafe regions as small and few as possible" not "never use unsafe"

Exactly, "productivity" and similarly "efficiency" are meaningless weasel word unless they're qualified and measured against something. So which measurable things? Let's start with just anything really because

Okay thanks. But what I'm saying is all of these anecdotes should add up to something measurable if there's something to the idea that an inflection point was reached in November 2025, right? There's a lot of marketing and hy

I'll give a recent example: the past month I had been using Codex cloud and it was working great writing Rust modules. Suddenly last week they made a few changes and everything went to shit, couldn't get a single good result out o

A benchmark doesn't prove "although we said it before, this time it's true". People pointed to the benchmarks then as well.

If it's so evident, why can't someone prove it with something more than "it seems better and everyone agrees"?

But DOTA in particular, it was never just a "given game"; even from DOTA 1 they added heroes and items frequently. Adding heroes and items changes the game balance so it has to be continually rebalanced.

by ModernMech 3mo ago
As someone who has continuously played DOTA for the last 20+ years, I appreciate Valve keeping the game fresh. Sometimes they make changes that aren't so great, but the game is always evolving so it's fine. Despite that, even afte

The effort can be minimal but there’s a gradient as far as I can tell. At one extreme is what you said: write a prompt and walk away. At the other end you could actually instruct the agent to write every character of the program, and that w
