Its only been a viable option to self publish for about 30 years, and more like 10 if you didn't want to invest large amounts of personal resources. Open access review and channelization is still an open problem. The for profit journal

Eh, I think that's mostly a consequence of the group considered rather than fundamental behavior. See e.g. the discussion about the same effects in science as they develop their own group think (jargon)

You can only forcibly migrate the edge protocol. There will still be competition for small ethernet frames to execute against geo arbitrage opportunities. What you'll (likely) see is internal networks on V4 and V4->V6 translation sw

Yeah you're right, above is a bit sensationalized. I think it still probably had a (positive) impact on pricing and time to market though

Better network tech =). You can probably thank trading for consumer 10G now and 40G in ~5 years.

Yep, the microwave links are often using custom layer 3 tech (1 byte messages!). Beyond that, you need to vertically integrate a hardware shop and get custom layer 3 hardware, otherwise you're not going to beat off the shelf Arista

For institutions on the leading edge, the extra bytes incurred by the IPV6 ethernet frame make it a non starter. 160 bits for IPV4 vs 320bits for IPV6 @ 10GHz is a 16 nanosecond penalty on every message you send.

Its really not that hard to create flat surfaces- anyone with a lathe, a hard cutting instrument, and a bit of fine grinding material can probably get a contact bond between two pieces of metal.

Don't, you need to multiply the raw conductivity by the linear distance occupied by the thermal paste? I presume that distance will be at least two orders of magnitude larger than that occupied by air in a metal contact only setup. I w

Somewhat unrelated, but maybe you can shoot me down since you seem to have some experience? Metal is an incredibly good conductor on its own, and the properties of thermal paste (typically) are just barely better than air. So long as your c

1) Cash (from users) can be loaned out for a small return 2) Individual investor flow is good flow. Trading companies pay for this flow. Uncertain whether robinhood does this, but (all?) other Joe-Shmo facing brokerages do.

That second graph and discussion is really frustrating. The claim is that latencies from 38-50 get shifted down into other buckets, and the the 51+ bucket increases is an artifact of the lower aggregate numbers. Maybe the data supports this
