I would love to know more about how this got discovered and figured out. I can imagine some sysadmin pull their hair out, thinking they've got some infected system, but then find out it was some bug with their terminal emulator.

I remember attempting to run Windows NT 4, but it lacked a lot of hardware support. Windows 2000 Professional fixed a lot of that. I consider Windows 2000 to be the first stable AND usable (for a desktop) version of Windows.

I see it as a self-fulfilling prophecy. People perceive their bank as unsafe (whether it is or not), so lots of people start withdrawing their funds, and suddenly the bank fails because it can't fund those withdrawals. It reminds me of
