Seems like your test of this theory https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23899565 failed, since you've been downvoted to the nether yourself.

At least in many of the European studies I've seen, the numbers point to a 75% decline in flying insect mass over the past 30 years. Certainly a whole lot of the loss has at least been in the post-war period.

Well, actix-web is a pretty large project written fully in Rust and it never really had any issues with lack of safety.

'Love how honest language is framed as "scary" language' Isn't the problem here that Apple isn't using honest language for their own advertising?

I think you overestimate how CPU intensive the inference is.

Why can't they just have full on-device transcription models? It's lossy, but extremely compressed.

What about transcribing all the audio you get and then sending it as a chunk of stuff every time the Hone is activated. Don't think you could catch that.

You certainly imply that the "history" you refer to in your third sentence is the one described in the previous two.

Parent comment claims you can use determinant to see if a reflection is occurring, I disagreed. I don't know where you thought I expected volume to change if I rotate something.

The matrix {{1,0,0},{0,-1,0},{0,0,-1}} has a determinant of 1 too, but it reflects along two different axes. So there's no way to distinguish from the determinant between the identity and between a reflection across two axes. I think t

If you ever want to really do math at some point in your life, I think you need linear algebra or something equivalent. Better to build the intuitions earlier in your life.

I had a very similar moment when I was thinking about why the determinants of all (non-identity) projections are 0 and the fact that the determinant is the product of the eigenvalues.

I was taught linear algebra largely through various physics courses I took through undergrad. Not necessarily the most traditional way, but I think that it should be taught that way more frequently - with physics, there is something concret

As a physics major at the time, I think that learning physics in addition to multivar and linear algebra is so handy in terms of providing reference material for intuitions. Also, learning it as part of a numerical computing stack (like p

"Don’t think of them as rotations, think of them as a unit vectors of a new coordinate systems." This makes it clear to me that many people have been very poorly served by their linear algebra courses if that is not obvious.
