I suppose it is, but not in a Silicon Valley way. They could scale to "large Southwestern city taxi service," but it wouldn't earn back the investment or deliver on the hype. If that becomes the ceiling I bet Google will simp

They work (most of the time) in Phoenix and SF because they've mapped every single inch of the cities by now and there are no adverse conditions. It's not scalable.

I don't know their reasoning, but I can't think of a significant way to use this in a nuclear industry that wouldn't be incredibly irresponsible.

We do have a way--large rotating cylinders--it's just expensive, and hard to engineer depending on the method. If Starship can really bring down launch costs per ton anywhere near what Elon claims, it will finally become feasible.

I don't think a distinction between "don't have the technical ability" and "don't have the political ability" is meaningful. The result is the same.

Cancer treatment spending is astronomical, but cancer research spending is indeed low. It's less than $5 billion per year across the entire planet, and funding has been declining year-on-year [0]. That's less than Twitter'

No one embarks on enterprises of this scale for their own sake, they do it because it's profitable. Sometimes the R&D needed to bootstrap new technology isn't profitable, even if it would be once developed. The only way to for

2015 was the nadir of processor improvements. At that point, Intel had effectively used the same processor in every laptop since 2008. I would like to see this analysis post-Ryzen and Apple Silicon.

Why would they need people with novel ideas? Most users are happy to consume reposts and influencer spam ad infinitum, and they're probably the most monetizable segment.

Intel deserves a lot of blame for the last few x86 MacBooks too. The TDPs on those i9s are completely imaginary. Out to lunch. If one were to, say, design a cooling system based on the specs and then receive a production sample that ran twi

Projects like this tend to be built by people with no interest in marketing, and for a non-profit I think it's fine to keep that particular sort of poisonous corrosion at arm's length.

There's a distinction to be made here. Everything that makes SD a powerful tool is the result of being open source. The actual models are significantly worse than Midjourney. If an MJ level model had the tooling SD does it would produc
