Do people really pass on candidates that often because they're too impressive? Overqualification in general seems like the kind of spectre that I just can't see translating to the real world.

Those people are stuck in a legalistic framework that privileges labels above reality.

O(n) measures the number of vector operations, but each one operates over a vector, so there are n^2 arithmetic operations. This is also true for perlin noise - there are 2^n vector operations, but the arithmetic complexity is O(n.2^n). Obv

If simplex noise covers a larger range, why not figure out the relationship between input->output range (or standard deviation), and apply that as a normalisation to the inputs? I assume the relationship is predictable, and tuning the in

I think introverts both gain energy from interactions with loved ones, and gain energy from being alone, and I think that's the same for extroverts. It's different types of "energy." I just don't buy that the simpli

Social anxiety (and selectiveness) in general seem like better descriptions to me. The introvert/extrovert framing seems off to me, I feel like it's misdiagnosing the problem.

Is there any evidence people are actually wired this way? Because as far as I can tell people mostly gain/lose energy based on whether they like the people they're interacting with, and everyone likes some time alone. Extroversi

I think there's an argument to be made that neural nets are in some sense a form of compression. The model is a lossy compressed representation of the data. So training a model on copyrighted data is quite direct copyright infringement

The problem with inheritance-heavy OO is that complexity creep rapidly makes the code completely unreadable and incredibly hard to work with (and basically impossible to refactor), rather than just making it more branchy and complex.

Extrapolating from these "studies" to this headline is ridiculous, and the effect sizes were tiny anyway. The hypothesis in the headline and the "warnings" they give (do they even mention global warming in the studies?

I don't think it's actually about backwards compatibility, because the logical solution to that would be to provide a unified dialogue with all necessary settings, and keep the old ones for BC. Instead, they've just moved so

They've made a mess, they should clean it up. I get it, all practical evidence seems to be that they're completely incompetent and this is impossible and any attempts to clean it up will inexplicably make it worse, but the fact th

You're not missing anything, the point of these kinds of articles is to elevate sexual identity above other aspects of identity (like honesty, moral compass, skills) and sell that to people who feel listless. It's the commodificat

I don't know if this is what they meant, but I assumed they were getting at the idea that a good recruiter will find you candidates who are better than they appear on their CV (because they'll be cheaper relative to their ability)

I'll be blunt, I don't think this is true. I fully believe that forcing a recruiter to operate on your terms comes across as inflexible and I doubt they like it, but I don't think it will hurt your employability at all. If a

Phoning it in means giving up on doing a good job, and just putting in the bare minimum effort to get the job done. It comes from the idea of phoning in rather than putting in the effort to show up in person. So in this case, they don'

Neural nets fundamentally cannot operate the same way a brain does, because they cannot create an abstract representation of a problem, and then gradually and deliberately manipulate that mental model until they develop a solution. They jus
