$22 million dollars is not "hardly wealthy". It's filthy rich.

You'd be wrong, I worked in public sector, for defense and other corp related gigs and it's never been an issue. What I've learned in my years at Pornhub is invaluable and has made finding a job stupid easy.

We experimented with HHVM, had a preview version of it very early on but ultimately the extension support was too bad and the performance gain just not impressive enough to justify moving away from the existing stack. We didn't have a

> All the pages are server-side rendered I should add that this wasn't out of optimisation, just "old-school" PHP+Html with an MVC framework to serve the rendered page. Still can't beat that in my view. > The most

Bingo. Modern web dev has actually made me hate my job, it's a nightmare for no real value. Source: Former Pornhub dev as well.

Can't really agree on that, looking at Github Actions for example. It's such a lack luster offering with severe limitations that make it almost unusable for any sort of serious project (no support for private Docker repository, no

Financial Independence Retire Early Short version is organising your finances and life in such a way that you can retire as early as possible. Things like maxing out the right kind of investment (not sure in the US but in UK it's thin

Not to be grating but your problem sounds more like using the wrong tool for the job. DOM is not made to render video game UI, it is a bad tool to do so as you discovered yourself.

We have a solid group going at our office playing MTG, Epic and Star Realms. We have weekly meet ups and do per release drafts of MTG. Interestingly at the shop I go to play I'm the only one with an engineering background.

Except OP made no mention of Wordpress, its notoriously bad and any decent developer who also happens to use PHP knows not to touch it with a ten foot pole.

Don't presume anyone writing PHP is a trainwreck. With PHP7+ you can write modern applications that are perfectly secure, as much as anything you'd write with any other scripting language.

I agree, though from the other side your sort of comment does not acknowledge the fact that a lot of projects do not require that kinda of scale. Fundamentally they are very different practice of software development and I think what OP tal

For those looking for another alternative to the heavy weight Slack client: https://github.com/bkanber/Slackadaisical Been using it, works fine as well. Good job OP though, diversity of offering is always good!

Oh yeah, go ahead and do TDD to prove to your CTO that he is right. TDD is a tool for specific needs, just doing TDD because you heard it's great will just kill the team productivity and whatever product they are working on.

Competent chatty people. If you can't express your competency during an interview chat I don't see how you could be a good candidate (there are exceptions), nothing more damaging to a team that someone who can't communicate.

Same can be said of MySQL. Not comparing to Postgres, but I've been amazed at how many people do not know that either of these as a powerful JSON type.
