There's the Sonic Physics Guide ( http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Physics_Guide ), though that's more about implementing the physics of the original Sonic games in code, rather than explaining real-world physics through playing Sonic games

Their Web Shape demo ( http://webdemo.visionobjects.com/shape.html?locale=default# ) lets you "scratch out" objects - perhaps they could implement that here? It's what I usually do when writing equations quickly, anyway.

I believe the study you're thinking of is "Lifetime maintenance of high-school mathematics content" (Journal of Experimental Psychology). I read about it in Why Don't Children Like School, perhaps you did too?
