Nice writeup. A minor nitpick though - why is the price of the 3090Ti stated as almost 2k USD? I guess the card might be hard to get new and this might indeed be the price somewhere, but since it's a previous generation, in my opinion

sure, that was my idea for a while as well. My problem is that I live in a big city. And bike theft is a real problem. I would have loved to build me something around a Rohloff gearbox with a belt compatible frame, but that thing would set

I've been watching his videos for a while when I was looking to build a bikepacking bike a few years back. For me, he's very good at what he does, but what he does is just a bit too extreme for what I want. I get how internal gear

IMO that's just a change in taste. IT happened to me as well on more than one occasion when You try something new, or just something You haven't bothered to re-try for a few years. For me, Rockwell is basically an encyclopedia of

yeah, same here. I do have one cheap French threaded BB bike and another 20+y old road bike with Shimano 600, so I'm a regular visitor of Sheldon's. But for anything 10y old and less, it's straight to Park Tool's Youtube

Oh crap. I'm quite ashamed this kind of internal CZ infighting makes it to the front page of HN. Please everyone, read this article with a pretty big pinch of salt. The title itself is misleading at best. Kundera "did" visit

For a bit of added context - swimming in Seine is way less risky already these days. The son of mayor of Paris has made a bit of a name for himself when he swam down the whole length of the river in 2021: https://www.thelocal.fr&

There have been quite a few improvements since I've lived in Paris (early 2000s). I've never really tried the Seine itself, but did quite a few swims in Marne (its tributary that flows in just outside the inner city limits) and t

There are always exceptions and edge cases. Plantations and farms are generally neither known as examples of urban design, nor are they homes for majority of population of any state. But even using the example of 18th century plantation - t

Yeah, it's kind of a pity that once the cars vs bikes debate comes up, irony is often really not obvious. The best take on this topic so far I've seen has been from "Not Just Cars": https://www.youtube.com&#x

this topic is a bit of a rabbit hole. Yes, roads have always been there. Massive car infrastructure and parking has not. Looking back in time, most people would actually walk for most of their daily life. That reflected in how cities and vi

To this I'd add: For the affordable gold nibs, "Lamy 2000" is generally the biggest competitor to Pilot Capless / Vanishing point. Same price, very similar nib quality, different esthetics / use case. For the cheap,
