LiMux (Linux for Munich) was started in 2004: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiMux Of course, Microsoft did some of their... persuation of politicians and initially killed the project in 2017, but it seems that since 20

Oh yeah, no objections on the principle: DisplayPort is awesome. The regular DP connector is fine because at least it locks in (sometimes too well), and MiniDP has been pretty great (especially when chaining multiple monitors on systems tha

How many 65" Displays with Display Port are there? Also, don't nVidia GPUs only support the nearly 10 year old Display Port 1.4, which doesn't support variable refresh rates for high resolution/high framerate displays? S

Yeah, the whole Wireguard nonsense showed that Netgate is not a serious company and that pfSense is not a serious project. It's trash that belongs onto the garbage heap of history. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2

We already have that ability, both Unity and Unreal can run in the browser (though it looks like Unreal moved their HTML5 stuff into a public plugin). I think Godot also works if you don't use C# and stick to GDScript, or use Godot 3.x

Curious, what challenges would git still have to deal with to work with big repos? 500 GB isn't all that much data in 2024, as long as you can resume a broken network connection on fetch (like using HTTP range requests if using http, a

The question - just like always in cases like this - is which forks will get long-term support. So just like with Terraform, it's probably a good option to stay on the last open source Redis version and wait to see how things shake out

I agree, the ROMED8-2T has everything I want and compromises almost nothing. One of the PCI Express slots is shared with one of the on-board M.2 slots, SATA, and Oculink, but even then, you get to choose: Run the slot at x16 and turn off M2

Only works on the original motherboard (or maybe only motherboards made by the specific vendor the CPU was locked to) - so if you buy a used vendor-locked CPU, there's a risk it's basically just a nice looking paperweight. Serve T

It's one of the funny things of the Raspberry Pi Pico W: The Infineon CYW4343 has an integrated ARM Cortex-M3 CPU, so the WiFi/BT chip is technically more advanced than the actual RP2040 (which is a Cortex-M0+) and also has more b

I wanted remote management (IPMI), which none of the Threadripper boards offered. I went with the ASRock Rack ROMED8-2T, which also has 2x 10G Ethernet on board, which was another nice thing I didn't have to sacrifice a PCIe slot for.

John Tyler was born on March 29, 1790 and served as the 10th President of the USA from 1841-1845. His Grandson, Harrison Ruffin Tyler (Born November 9, 1928), is still alive today.

Still rocking my EPYC 7282 in my home server, which really sits in a sweet spots: 16 Cores, about $700, 120W TDP (because of the reduced memory bandwidth). Looks like the 7303 fills that same niche in the Milan generation (and should be com

It's a good point - I was more talking about society as a whole, since we didn't collapse. And we wouldn't collapse if some Quartz mind in North Carolina closes either. But yes, on an individual level, it can be severe. Like

I agree that it wouldn't be catastrophic, but we just saw a semiconductor shortage during COVID. For a lot of us end-users, that mainly meant that we couldn't get a Raspberry Pi, but it did affect some industries where a lot of Mi

Intel's desktop CPUs do not support ECC, you need a Xeon for that. The Xeon E would be their cheapest option, if you're okay with 20 PCIe lanes on a Raptor Lake Xeon. And yeah, AMD's Desktop ECC support is sketchy because it&
