Talk about timing. I just wrote up a list for a friend that includes a bunch of weird movies (most of them being head trips). My list includes two Cronenberg movies as well! Though, to be honest, I'm not really a fan of either. Heh, I know

Vaguely interesting but completely unrelated. I expected "the secret" to be that this guy dressed in drag and talked up guys at the bar to spill their secrets. Needless to say, I was very disappointed when the "secret" was using Twitter as

I agree with this. PG responded that he believes in the idea because they already did it, but it doesn't seem quite accurate. Teams initially accepted by YC were accepted on the basis of an idea. I am going to take a bit of a leap of faith

I feel this article is flawed with the author only acknowledging one set of possible goals/ values for a person to strive for in life. To myself and many others, having a (government reported) job and a car are not the pot at the end of the

It is possible to write an article targeted toward a particular audience while simultaneously educating them. For example, I think a statement like: "The U.S. House of Representative, a governing body similar to the British House of commons

I read this post this morning and had the day to put it through "the hopper". Having done so, I think the key take away about "toy" value is the critical necessity of a difficulty curve (though versatility certainly helps). When my parents

I'm glad I wasn't the only person affected by this. I couldn't finish the article. At first I thought it must be some sort of commentary related to the article (i.e. web 2.0 and social clutter) but no. You can minimize the "no spam" widget

I never realized you could access your search data history. It was really fascinating to see the different visualizations including my search concentration by hour and days of the week. That said, even as a non-statistician, it wasn't hard

I wrote out a significant response about the strange segregation of being a celebrity (of any repute) before rereading your post. The most interesting thing to me is that within the span of 24 hours you ate alone with one partner's wife and

This analysis is painfully similar to the last (start-up?) company for which I worked. A huge chunk of my time in client acquisition was first dedicated to education. Things like impressions, clicks, CTR, and god forbid CPM are all jargon t

Disclaimer: I don't know enough about the legality/planned dev of CodeAcademy to know if this is actually feasible. It seems like one of the best ways to compensate creators (and support another young company) would be to integrate the flat

If you read through the comments on this thread, it becomes apparent that posters "already know everything about China",its government, and its people. Reading statements contending that it is a developed country make that clear. That said,

Very enjoyable. Feature Requests: 1. Preload next image? My connection sucks so pre-loading would be extremely valuable. 2. I would also love to see the top comment for each photo. Though, I suppose that may make it less addicting and cause

The majority of comments seem to praise the programming/IT community or question the state of our government/economic system but I have a different question. What future skill set should people be retooling to have? What can our economy use

I really like this idea but I think it is important to ensure that whatever XXX material you have, the actors are clearly over 18. Lord knows it may make your standing far worse if you have anything pushing the line. So, 30+ year old models

Reading this thread is much like reading discussions about the "n word". Coincidence? Obviously, opinions probably run deeper for the original "n word" but it is no mystery why many of us are offended when congressmen use the word with an a

I think one cool byproduct is the realization that we share much more in common with a group of people, not because of their home state but rather because of their core beliefs. Living abroad, this becomes all to evident when people expect

China is equally fun. Piracy is simply a fact. Universities use pirated windows XP. Street vendors sell every sort of game in plastic sleeves for a few kuai (approx 0.50 USD). Computer shops and tech markets do the same. I suppose I could s

To begin, donations are not in exchange for a particular service or benefit. That is why these are donations and not membership fees. When you donate money to the Red Cross, you are not mandating that they provide fresh water to somebody in

Levine takes an approach to China very much in contrast to my own. From the article, it seems he spends most of his time travelling, relaxing with other expats, and teaching students that are excited about English. As for myself, most of m

Economists do not all think that way. Just as there are many differing perspectives in other sciences (feel free to cringe if you are a mathematician, chemist, etc.), there are a range of schools in economics as well. Though I cannot fully
