Lets step back from the "open" buzzword and look at the empirical facts. Less than a decade ago you made sure your web sites ran well in Internet Explorer, a closed source browser that was allowed to stagnate. IE took the W3Cs standards as

Do your parents know how to change the default search engine on iOS? The desktop is a different beast than mobile; I think most mobile users just use the "search field" and find what they want. (Edited for typo)

DRM isn't dead, and its not going away any time soon. Although iTunes dropped it for music, they still use it for all video contents and of course apps. Spotify uses DRM for their content as well. I'll be honest, I used to be a DRM hater, l

I think you'll see an update shortly that will fix this issue; which is clearly just an overlooked bug. I think you'll also see iOS patching the issue soon too.

Impossible? I don't think so. Since Path (and every other iOS app) uses a system API for things like photos it's trivial for the OS to strip the exif location data from photos if the user has turned off location data for an application, the

While I feel your frustration with iOS apps in general, concurrency is not a silver bullet. I can't say anything specifically about what's making certain iOS applications slow, but I actually think it's probably more related to Core Data an

Why do they need to sell? Just because a company doesn't have a (public) monetization strategy doesn't mean it won't come with time. There are other options for successful startups than just selling the company.

It's nearly impossible to compare raw specs when Apple is making their own chips. Android devices have had more cores and more Hertz than the iPhone for years, but only recently have they been able to start matching the iPhone in performanc

Well, if the phone still works and you need something replaced under warranty, you can always factory reset it. If the phone DOESNT work, then there is no way for them to tell that it's jailbroken in the store...

Anyone building large projects do this anyway, using minifiers to reduce the download size. Sometimes the code has inline documentation which gets built too. A build step is already a reality for many people writing JS today.
