I found that just looking at them with an unconcerned, disinterested expression, then carrying on my way did the trick.

Agreed. biicode ( https://www.biicode.com/ ) might have potential.

gcc is little more than a symlink to clang for recent versions of Xcode, so something else fishy is going on.

I was very excited until I saw: "Supporting graphical applications such as those based on GTK, Qt, SDL, OpenGL etc is outside the scope of this project."

Good! Having done a lot of recruiting recently I've noticed no correlation between degree classification and problem solving ability. I have a 2:2 myself :)

It was a good rant until he encouraged writing a test after writing the code to be tested :( As a developer also with 12 years experience, I implore you to write your tests first . Otherwise your organisation will almost inevitably end up

I am most excited about template strings, simply because they let you write multiline strings. e.g. instead of "hello\n" + "world"; use `hello world`;

"The runtime-modifiable classes use a macro that registers the files themselves to be monitored. Whenever one of those files changes, we pick it up and recompile it into a DLL. By linking that DLL we can switch over to the new code, le

There isn't much of a difference. The underlying principles of how they work are essentially the same. However hg has IMHO a more pleasant UI, and it's easier to customise. I believe Facebook chose hg for the latter reason: https

I'm glad you mention Qt. Qt bindings are an absolute necessity before my company (which also makes cross-platform applications) could consider adopting Rust.

I found that in my team that agile worked brilliantly for us at first - we were working together to create features that customers loved. Then support queries came in for the features we developed previously. At first a couple of team membe

Ironically that has already been reinvented in the form of Cap'n Proto: http://kentonv.github.io/capnproto/ (other than that I agree it's a good solution)

Intel GPUs != solid OpenGL drivers. I do a lot of work in OpenGL and I curse Intel almost daily for the multitude of bugs in their OpenGL implementations. The GPUs' only saving grace is their ubiquity so at least I get a bug report qui

Prohibitively? That really depends on your use case. OpenSceneGraph [1] uses intrusive reference counting pointers yet has been found suitable for many real time applications. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSceneGraph

Neither of those statements are true, and the cited article doesn't back up your claim. Check out this thread safe reference counting pointer, it's not complicated: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/libs/smart_ptr/shared_p...

This seems naïve: "A character is not an Unicode character but a single byte." Disappointing from a developer who presumably types several ü characters each day.

That's a shame. I think your project still has a lot of value, even if the results are used more for software that's end-user focussed.

It's not too hard to write a Mercurial extension to do that kind of thing. Copying the code for the EOL extension ( http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/EolExtension ) and modifying it would be a good start.
