That argument is plausible if not for the fact that East Germany was pretty destitute compared to West Germany.

My point is simple, you are poorly informed on this topic and should refrain from speaking about it. None of the libraries you listed are independent implementations of the standard library let alone source compatible. EASTL does not claim

None of those are implementations of the C++ standard library. None of them even live in the same namespace as the standard library so your claim that they remain compatible at the source level is nonsense. Just a simple Google search would

You won't get a sense of how bad exceptions can be by using Godbolt. A lot of the magic of exceptions is handled behind the scenes by the compiler and/or the Itanium ABI. For example one disasterous consequence of using exceptions

Unlike in C, in C++ it is not possible to use an independent implementation of the standard library. Clang is compatible with GCC's standard library/libstdc++ and MSVC's standard library because the clang compiler explicitly

Fascinating how two people can read the same article and take away two opposite conclusions from it. If anything what Youtube did helped Firefox far more than it helped Chrome, but I suppose from your point of view it's the opposite. A

But your article argues the opposite of your claim. Your article says that Microsoft themselves were working to move people away from Internet Explorer 6 and encouraging people to upgrade to a modern browser by declaring IE 6 to be at its e

You're right on some points, other points don't match up with my understanding of the issue. Chrome was a much better browser compared to the default that came installed on Windows, and certainly if someone is going to switch away

Please use quotes to refer to a statement that someone has actually made. Doing otherwise is an indicator that you are making a strawman argument.

Perhaps, but it's worth noting that Chrome became the dominant browser on Windows even though Internet Explorer/Edge is the default browser and comes preinstalled.

The first is more expressive, the second is more explicit. The expressiveness of an expression allows it to be used in more contexts, such as in generic code where the underlying type may not be known.

You seem to have a very narrow C++ view of what sum types are. Sum types are related to the expression problem, and the given example is the canonical instance of the expression problem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex

Fischer random chess is interesting because some starting configurations give a pretty big advantage to white (more than a half pawn advantage) whereas other starting configurations give less of an advantage to white than standard chess.

I see, reading about this issue it looks like eBPF can be used in Linux to sandbox kernel applications, preventing such applications from crashing the kernel as a whole.

My understanding is that Linux is just as vulnerable to this issue as Windows but isn't used as often for desktop software. In fact there two security incidents just this year involving Crowdstrike on Debian and Rocky Linux.
