When I say democratic, I don't mean the Democratic party's primary process, I mean a process by which people vote to select a leader. Yes I agree that Joe Biden had the legal authority to step down and appoint Kamala Harris as his

Exactly, over the past 15 years of doing this I can basically recall every single day that my firm had a net loss, with Brexit was the biggest one. Most of the losses were due to technical failures/bugs/networking issues, very few

As a quant myself, we don't try to predict the market, at least not the way that people normally talk about predicting, and we certainly don't move the market in our favor. At least what my firm does, is we look at the current sta

I don't think the term word has any consistent meaning. Certainly x86 doesn't use the term word to mean smallest addressable unit of memory. The x86 documentation defines a word as 16 bits, but x86 is byte addressable. ARM is simi

If you are aware that "Maxatar's conjecture is that 1 + 1 = 5", then it's correct to say that you have knowledge about "Maxatar's conjecture", regardless of whether the conjecture is actually true or false

Sure we'd say physicists have knowledge of quantum mechanics and general relativity. And we can also say physicists have knowledge of how to make predictions using quantum mechanics and general relativity. In this sense, general relati

Seems contradictory but you can clarify. If a proposition can be falsified then that is knowledge that said proposition is false, and the negation is true. If nothing can be proven or known then it must follow that nothing can be falsified.

That's what a gettier is, it's when you have a justified true belief about a proposition but the justification is merely coincidental. You were still justified to believe the proposition, the proposition is still true, and so unde

I think the point is that most people know that Google can terminate your subscription to GMail, whereas most people would be surprised to know that Valve can also terminate your subscription to Steam and lock you out of your game library.

What is inherently wrong with taking a pill for weight loss? I can understand being cautious about side-effects or efficacy, but if a pill existed that resulted in weight loss and was side-effect free, I can't imagine what would be inh

Nothing to do with perf is a strong claim. If you genuinely don't care about performance you can use an arbitrary-precision rational number representation. But performance often matters, so you trade off precision for performance. I th
