Hydrofoils were in fashion during the 70s. Many were built 7n Norway and sold to South East Asia. As seen on James Bond. I wonder why they disappeared

The claim that Apple equipment is not good on a price performance ratio does not hold water. I recently needed to upgrade both my phone and my laptop. I use Apple products, but not exclusively. Making cross platform apps, I like to use all

Aren't your thoughts contradictory? You say Altman is no longer needed because Gpt4 is now very good. Then you describe how horrible the iPhone is now. Steve Jobs has been dead a long time, and without his leadership, the uncompromisin

And more importantly, they are scamming the content creators. They are not usually a massive company, but working alone, with YouTube revenue as their main income.

USB C with USB 3 had an id chip. If the cable does not have a chip, it is good old USB 2.

Then it is broken I think you have both a broken cable and a broken device, or one not up to spec. Some devices only connect to one side, which will work on a good cable, since it is connected to both sides. One of the PC manufacturers did

The high speed and power delivery cables have chips on them, so the connected devices won't use high speed or PD if the cable can't handle it, regardless of length.

As much plastic as we dump into nature now, we increase the chance for a mutation of a microbe being able to digest it. If that microbe manage to multiply and spread, plastic can start to rot, just like wood is doing now. On a long term bas

I used to think this. But the quality and integration of the infotainment in new cars, for example Tesla, is so much better than any extern unit I have tested, that now I really appreciate the systems coming with the car. I used to change t

It's always good to dream, but in silicon implementation and production, millions and billions are spent, so having anybody sharing that I think is not very likely. It's a totally different ballgame than software. But let's h

Well, the bloat has made many programs slower than they could be. Software is eating up the advances we get in hardware. Modern Word 365 is not any faster than Word 95 on a Pentium 66 in normal use. That is a ~100MHz computer with maybe 16M

We did a lot of loop unrolling and self modifying code back in the day, when making demos for the C64. The branch is really expensive. For example, clearing the screen you might use 16 STA adr,x and then add 16 to X before you branch to the

The screens are expensive for everybody. For devices with e-ink display, the screen is often more than the rest of the BOM combined. That's why there are only premium device on the market, except Kindle, which is subsidized by Amazon.

2 cores of 240 MHz RISC is quite powerful. 40nm is not bad for microcontrollers. For example, the competing nRF52 series from Nordic is made on 55nm process.

I love this blog series that just goes on and on. Keep up the good work! One thing I'm thinking about: I grew up writing 6502 assembly on the VIC20 and C64. We hated the 8086 back then, as kids do with hardware. When growing up I saw t

I don’t think it’s fair to say that you need “infinite budget” to pay $100 per month? I pay more for several products and have a quite limited budget. But tools making me more productive or help my business is definitely worth to pay for.
