I'm a heavy user of Lambda. Our primary stack is Heroku+Rails, but one of our workflows allows students to upload DOCX files where we do some heavy processing (2-3 seconds per file). This wasn't a great fit for Rails, fabulous fit

Solo, technical founder here. I started a very niche EdTech company 5 years ago, non-venture funded, grew it (code+users) while having reasonably demanding full-time jobs, and now operate it FT. In short: it's tough; you're never

Adding another datapoint on this: I’ve been a Stripe customer for 5-6 years and have received outstanding customer service. This includes immediate callbacks by phone, knowledgeable support on disputes, etc. Each time the support person has

I know it's not cool these days, but I strongly prefer (and advise) fully-managed cloud services like Heroku. I can fix my database size and scale/resources (dynos) easily. It's simple, and controlled.

Of course she did. Dolly is a brilliant, wonderfully kind person. Here's my favourite video of Dolly, taken while she was on vacation in Ireland. Dolly Parton in Paídi Ó Sé's Pub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q

Does anyone know the details on switching licenses? For example, how it affects previous versions? Can the copyright owner switch licenses at anytime? If there’s a resource in this I’d love to read more, too.

Canada is benefiting substantially from the recent US immigration policies. My Ai team at Microsoft Canada was stacked with talent, all immigrants, and most expressed to me that they would have “normally gone to the US.” I don’t have to rem

I don't think people are interpreting the term "poached" as literally as you are. Losing an employee to a competitor is bad for a company, especially bad for a small company, hence the negative connotation.

Tool looks great! Out of curiosity, are you planning to monetize? If so, do you mind me asking how?

This is not accurate. Getting fired versus laid-off are different; it's important to understand this. For one, if you're communicating with a professional and express that you were fired, they will make much different assumptions

Is anyone currently using this setup (Rails w Docker) in production? I've been using Rails for years, I haven't yet experienced much pain by way of language/library versioning (etc). Python is a different story...

Completely agree. I worked for Microsoft this year. Had an amazing experience, learned a ton, built a great network, had benefits and was well compensated. I did this all while taking almost 0 risk. The idea that working for a tech giant is

I rarely ask questions on StackOverflow, but I use it every day. I'm a big fan of SO, although I'd love to see someone solve the problems you're describing and build an alternative!

I really thought on-board voice would be a game changer. Not having to do the round-trip to the cloud to determine intent, and providing a conversational interface (i.e. "now send this to Pam") I thought would generate that buzz.

Maybe. I don't recall seeing leaks on picture/video specs or battery life. When you build an event like this, I think you put your best foot forward. Google did, it just wasn't terribly impressive IMO.
