If each node has its own local database, then: * you shouldn’t need a database that can handle concurrent writes * and increasing the number of nodes shouldn’t increase the database load

Use sqlite3 until you actually cannot. It sounds like you're assuming it's bad, but it sounds ideal for your use-case since it is designed to be a fully-local database.

Yep. I’m a JS dev who gets offended when people complain about JS-sites being slower because there’s zero technical reason why interactions should be slower. I honestly suspect a large part of it is that people don’t expect clicking a butto

This is why stuff like this doesn’t happen more often. I played a 10-day game of tag in college. (Called Humans vs Zombie, “humans” were able to tagged by zombies any time that they were outside. We would start with ~150 humans, at the begi

I was going to comment explaining the concept of delivery costs but I got distracted by the part where you describe $9 as nearly $15. Nearest dollar I’d be fine with. Nearest $5 or $10 I can imagine. Nearest $15 doesn’t make any sense. $9 i

It’s exactly comparable. The browser-autofill functionality in KeyPassXC is not a plug-in and it’s not risky. The person saying that is the Debian maintainer.

Creating a brand new account in order to submit something is a very strong indicator of spam, and your post was automatically killed by spam detection. If you have a personal HN account, you can re-submit from that account.

There’s a good series of posts called “Rope Science” by the author of the now-unmaintained Xi editor. These posts were cited as an inspiration by the Lapce author. => https://xi-editor.io/docs/rope_science_00.html

Python’s weird mix of OOP but also global methods like `sorted` and `filter` is very weird to me. (Not to mention list comprehensions.) In Ruby, control flow pretty much always moves from left to right as you add successive method calls.
