I haven't been following this closely, but if I understand correctly, the jury found against Samsung on the Nexus S. That is a Google phone built straight from Android and with no specific Samsung code at the UI level. (Don't think a discla

McDonalds owning Chipotle isn't an urban legend, it was true but is no longer. In 1999, Chipotle was a subsidiary of McDonalds ( http://www.chipotlefan.com/index.php?id=chipotlemcdonalds ), but McDonalds was fully divested around 2006 ( htt

Is this at Rands? That's not what I gathered at all. To me, Rands was concluding that Apple is secretive to surprise the whole world, not Apple employees. I don't think it's possible for a company the size of Apple to have all employees kno

The Galaxy Nexus is stock Android. Apple is suing Samsung because of stock Android software - not firmware, not hardware, but software. Is there a legal reason Apple is suing Samsung instead of Google, or is it tactical / political?

Plus if Gabor doesn't come up with another successful idea before he needs money (which I doubt), he can always get a day job again to pay the rent.

Corn is a grain, not a vegetable. Dietarily, Americans do like to treat corn as a vegetable, but it should be more thought as as a starch.

I used a friend's Asus Transformer Prime a couple weeks ago (Android tablet with keyboard) and it seemed very well implemented. The Transformer Prime is a great netbook and dang close to being a laptop replacement. It made me wonder what th

Honestly, I hope America gets universal healthcare as well. I just don't get "if this is struck down, it'll pave the way for true universal healthcare." I think, logically, that universal healthcare would be more likely without the individu

At the same time, America treats emergency healthcare as a right and then the rest of society pays those bills. It's probably cheaper for people to get care before it gets to the emergency level. It certainly results in better quality of li

Ha. You may have missed the past tense on "worked for Palantir." I was the bottom half of my class at CMU, so if it floats your boat to work at Palantir, apply away.

How is it evil for a recruiter to say "Y'know, we offer a lower salary than you're looking for, but we make up for it in perks!" And then how is it evil for the food team or corporate finance team to say "We're wasting money in food - liter

One thing this article doesn't point out: it wasn't Google who argued that the supposedly lower salary was offset by food - it was a person (sure, an employee or contractor of Google). Perhaps this person was reading from a recruiting scrip

That doesn't sound to me what nl is talking about at all. He's asking what others would do if they were running Google. He's not suggesting that ethics don't exist.

I've thought about excluding an employer from my resume. I left Google in April, worked at another company for 6 months, didn't like it and resigned, and started at Strava (which I'm loving) in November. I have a decision to make: do I incl

I've done a lot of interviews. Hired a bunch of people. And I'll agree that technical interviews aren't a great proxy for how we really should be handling hiring (blogged about it a couple days ago http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2011/10/algo

The title is "Most Technical Interviews Suck". The content is about how what a series of interviews at one specific company sucked, and the interviews didn't sound all that technical. Bad day, sure. But definitely not supporting the title.
