IDK about the rest but Sweden has definitely not encouraged good education in a while.

Most programmers are happy enough to make their current salary and many work for less. Don't think it's gonna increase any time soon.

None of those races count as minorities in these types of arguments. Only blacks, latinos, and LGBT do.

Way too many C#/Java developers who used JS in the early 2000s and hated it still think it's the same language.

Agreed. The JS community has some great people but in general it's very immature.

Similar situation here: My discrete mathematics professor last year pretty much used everything from the MIT OCW Mathematics for Computer Science books. Homework, exams, lectures (even the jokes in the video lectures!).

I'll go as far as to say that when it comes to degrees like Art History, prestige (i.e. reputation of the school's department) is what matters the most. That way, you will get to do the interesting research and make the necessary

In the last few years I have learned that "coders" now usually means JavaScript/Ruby people. Even as a web dev enthusiast I kinda wish we had more "traditional desktop/server" software people to follow.

Might be wrong with this and it might not fit Duolingo's app but it would not be too bad to at least have spoken Japanese with romaji. I think most people will admit that learning to write Japanese well is something not many foreigners

Pretty cool. There are some great Packt books (I liked Haviv's MEAN Web Development when trying out the stack), but am I wrong in thinking the signal-to-noise ratio is kinda bad? It reminds me a lot of Udemy (seems like anyone can publ

That sounds like an interesting strategy. What niche did you end up on? I'm still a young developer so I have time/patience to try new stuff, but I'd love to focus on a niche someday.

I just want to say that as a college student, HN Who's Hiring has been a great resource in both applying for internships and finding out about new companies. My university has little to no programming jobs in their career resources, so

For getting a good job/lifelong employment this list seems way too long and broad. I'd argue better time is spent actually building stuff in your area or language of choice, networking, taking internships and jobs, and practicing—
