I'm not too familiar with the message queue use-case, but perhaps this is something you could do with ScalienDB, which supports replication and failover. Disclaimer: I wrote it.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but there's also a new company called Hadapt (the commercialization of HadoopDB). It's about adapting Hadoop for real-time analytic SQL queries by putting local SQL dbs on the Hadoop nodes and then us

Check out http://scalien.com or http://github.com/scalien/scaliendb for a replicated, scalable (sharding) database built around strong replication (Paxos). Google's latest database called Megastore is also using Paxos and they seem to b

Chomsky is 82 years old. We're lucky he still has enough energy and drive to sit on panels. I think it's disrespectful to demand serious investigation from an 82 year old man who has produced more of that in his earlier life than we all wil

Why not just take it and use it as insurance that he will always be able to spend his time doing math... This has nothing to do with principles. Suppose it's 1920 in Russia (or Germany) and you turn down $1M. You sure as hell could use that

Great post. I've also had "Startup depression" where I didn't sleep for 1 week and was totally unproductive for a grand total of 2-3 weeks. Ever since then I stopped recommending doing startups to my friends. We've also experienced the "You
