But the movie wasn't a scam/fraud. The funding was stolen, the result of fraud. The moviw would have been a fraud if they collect a lot of money for it claiming Leonardo DiCaprio will star and Scorcese will direct, and then that d

I have an Msc in Physics. I got it after my CS Msc, because I got really hooked on physics after reading tons of Feynman stuff (FLoP, etc). I've been programming since age 7 (C64), so I'm a programmer who got a Physics degree, not

When raw materials are combined, new value is created. Disregarding solar input, raw materials are finite, so it was the same total 1000 years ago as today. Yet today we have infinitely more goods (and services) than 1000 years ago, and we

Mainstream economic theory is considered garbage by the majority of mainstream economists :) Joking aside, what MMT says is pretty easy to understand from reading ~100 pages and watching some YT lectures/debates, where mainstream econo

The US govt is not like a household. You can print your own money, all your debt is deniminated in USD. Inflation is not an issue in reality. Google 'modern monetary theory'.

Somewhat related, there's a great book, Twenty Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory : https://www.amazon.com/dp/131662479X The book is free to download on the author's website, per-chapter, eg. first one

I read the Factfullness book, and I thought it's really poorly argued. I remember my BP was through the roof on the plane when I was reading that. HR is not believable imo. (I work in data, I'm a physicist.)

Some good questions, you won't get answers to all: What's your runway? Are you profitable? What is your yearly revenue? What's the biggest problem you're facing right now? What could kill you in the short-term? What'

It'd be cool if you could extract from bug reports (or test runs) when an "issue" occurs, and count that as an upvote. I've seen sth like that that up on dashboards at a company, they had an in-house test cluster that wa

I've put ML/NLP into production this year to automate away much of our ~1,000 person call center (successfully). I've tried a lot of things on the way, played around with SKL to see what features end up being useful. But in t

My own answer: The team I was in in 2013 invested a lot of time to learn Haskell. We tried to use it in production for 1-2 projects, mostly as an ETL framework. It didn't work out, we found the it's not a good fit for changing req

Why don't you make it fair, like "everybody can sell X% of their vested shares". You can even be nice to employees and do it like "everybody can sell max{Z pieces of stock, X% of vested}", and set Z so that people w

It's good, but very dry. Look at the spacetime one and read the Preface, it gives a good overview of the "program". Read the first chapter and see what you think. http://szofi.elte.hu/~szaboa/MatolcsiKony

I (tried to) used Vol. 1 and 2 of Weinberg for QFT courses back 12 years ago, I don't agree that they're good in the sense of being clear / not handwavy.

I don't think this is about reconciling QM and GR. Even without gravity, modern particle physics theory is a big mess imo.

One thing I wish would happen: create a nice, asthetic, smooth way for a smart student to go from the two-slit experiment to QED/QCD [in 2-3 years], while having clarity what the input parameters are in the model (=needs to be measured

I agree it doesn't generalize, but I don't agree that it's because of "scale". It doesn't generalize because not every company should write its own language (and can't hire good enough engineers for this).

I've seen 2 non-trivial rewrites of the mainline software at 2 companies. Non-trivial = 10-100M in yearly revenue. In both cases: - it was promised to take 6-9 months, and ended up taking 3-4 years - it never really finished, the old s

Why doesn't the author just put up the PDF for sale on this site? I'd pay ~$20 with Paypal right now for the PDF, straight to the author.
