I believe the Metro-style apps do run in a sandbox. It's conceivable that Microsoft could make a version of Windows 8 that did not support old style apps, so in that case all apps would be sandboxed.

That's a clever use of the free tier of EC2. I wonder how long it will be before someone on 4chan makes a DDOS AMI.

From the article: "When we begin our support for home gateway devices late this year, we initially plan to use a default IPv6 prefix allocation that is a /64 in length, providing over 18 quintillion IPv6 addresses."

Is there a way to get your old shared items back? I'm feeling a betrayed having all those interesting links and comments taken away from me.

From what I can tell, the Metro subset of .NET is a projection over the real .NET 4 framework, which suggests that even on arm the full framework will be available. Either way though, CLR Metro apps should run on both x86 and ARM.

If you write your app on HTML/JavaScript or (presumably) .NET, it should run on both platforms. If you are deploying native code, I would think that creating your own "fat binary" would not be too hard to do. Either install the right binar

DLL hell solved indeed. How many versions do you keep? For what it's worth, the DLLs in System32 are projected out of WinSxS with hardlinks, so they should not take up extra space. You still have the multiple version thing, however that c

You can often use the menu View -> Page Style -> No Style to fix these sorts of problem. On Windows it's a quick Alt-V-Y-N and then an Alt-V-Y-B to turn styling back on.

The next step for this would be to statically verify the annotations are being obeyed.

I think a good improvement to address this problem would be to split up the background image so that the top can be shown while the bottoms bits are still loading. A 3MB single background image is not a great experience.

The person writing the complaint letters repeatedly referred to the books as "non-fiction". See page 10 and 12 in the parent comment's PDF link.

Slashdot attempts to fix this with meta moderation. Users are given the chance to judge up-votes essentially. Whether that is actually effective for them or applicable to Hacker News, I could not say. http://slashdot.org/faq/metamod.shtm

I would think it would be easy to provide the security side-effect of NAT through firewalls in routers. The concept of "you can't talk to me unless I initiated a connection" does not seem to require NAT.
