Random thought from a Texan who is a resident of Germany, but still only a US citizen (and one who votes in Texas, because that was my last US residence): how’s that going to work if one of my cousins posts something Nazi-adjacent enough on

We still have vegetable oil shortages in German supermarkets, though we’ve at least gotten to the point where there’s always plenty of 750ml bottles of organic canola oil for 5-7 EUR, but store brand sunflower or canola oil for 3 EUR/l

That’s one of the many reasons I’m glad that I live in, and had my kid in, Germany. The year I was off work wasn’t paid anywhere near my pre-baby post-tax salary (those payments are capped at 1800 EUR/mo), but because they cover up to

There are probably several thousand, if not more, other former Windows platform admins like me that are absurdly grateful that Snover stuck with his vision, giving us a path to being automation and, later, cloud experts. I've since bra

I had the old MS Surface Pro 2 (11" screen, I think) as my daily driver for awhile, and found that designing PowerPoints and conference sessions - including code demos - to be legible on that screen led to better presentations.

Over a third of the students at my middle school were in band, and lots of them had academic problems. By eighth grade, they were all ok enough at reading music to get through multi-page pieces together. Only a few of us could have told you

I pulled my flute out of its case after over five years, and within minutes was playing all my scales, and able to play the melody lines out of a hymnal. My tone was awful, and my lips got tired long before my hands. To this day, I still as

I can only give advice for “one note at a time” instruments like the flute or trumpet: practice sight reading children’s songs you know (and therefore can tell if you’ve made a huge mistake) - sight reading, not memorizing! As you get more
