Up until 2007 or so, similar story in New Zealand. The government broke up our internet monopoly, then the subsequent duopoly 10 or so years after that.

It took 24 hours for me to validate/check my 16TB disk (I don't know the linux commands, it was a tool /r/DataHoarders suggested). I've upgraded the quality of all my video files and I've still got TB's of

REST/modern interface specs and DX tooling is probably a 2x over SOAP for me. Not 10x, but the reduction in interface and validation issues has led to a vast improvement in consuming APIs from other organisations.

I wouldn't give them 10x, but certainly 2-3x for junior developers compared to predecessors and 1.2x for others. Which is still incredibly significant and nothing to sneeze at.

It sounds like you've got an academia background so if they're research or R&D positions, that might be why. Because they're competing in an already saturated field. Or there aren't many jobs but lots of graduates ke

Yeah we end standard support release+2 years and extended support release+5 years for major versions. Given that it's still mostly the same core code that was implemented 10 years ago, not sure how this would gel.

My entire network makes more than that in Dev and Arch roles in that part of the world. None of them have to live in London for them either. Either you're underpaid, or C++ has been commoditized to the same point as PHP. If you value m

In Australia it's mandated you're sent a message before rerouting or migrating to another provider. Surprised this isn't enforced in the other countries, it costs next to nothing to implement and is just an additional step in

This has been my experience too, but I don't work in research or specialised areas. I work in CRUD code and API development. Hardly need a CS degree for 90% of software development. I'd prefer they taught these grads engineering p

So you're someone who's currently doing a Masters, attesting to it being worth it. I think if you're currently in academia, I can't give too much weight to your opinion. Yes, you'll get a relatively deep introductio

What is your opinion on this paper? I'm really quite surprised because although the sample size is commendable, it really doesn't reflect my own experience or reality amongst my social circle. https://paa2013.princeton.
