Now if only we could get every single IE user to upgrade, including IE7/8 users, that'd be perfect.

It's true Google has yet to sell a hardware consumer product that is wildly successful, but that's also why this is exciting: unlike with nexus tablets or phones, the possibily of becoming the "iPhone" of a new product category exists here,

Exactly this. I remember the feeling of being very surprised to find out that life could meant so much more after I finished school. Suddenly bad things didn't happen because you were unlucky and that's it, but as a result of your choices t

You forget that you are kid when you are in school; you barely scratched the surface of understanding how people think, what motivates and what drives them, heck you don't even know how would you take care of yourself alone. And yet you're

We have all sorts of discussions here on HN that derail a bit from the topic of the main article linked, e.g. discussing smart TVs in a thread about webOS; I don't see how this is negative as long as there is still connection.

Maybe because early adopters don't care for TVs. I'd be willing to bet most folks here in HN don't really watch TV for instance, other than for the occasional news, and for something to eventually catch on and become mainstream having a bas

I was wondering the exact same thing. I guess it's very likely LG abandons the open version of it though.

This won't be a popular comment, but I have to admit I never really liked CoffeeScript. I've tried to like it, and it does seem more concise, but what's the point, it always seems clearer (to me) what something written in vanilla javascript

Great point. But: > if you allow the languages to coexist in the same page What if we didn't? Perhaps each site could decide whether to use the JS VM OR the "new" VM; it's not ideal, but this could work. You know, much like what one wou

That's why I didn't literally said nothing at all, and it's great that there's something going on with the language, but it would be even better if we were to start new language from scratch, rethought for today.

The sad part is that there is little effort into changing this. Javascript was clearly not designed for what is being used nowadays, but browsers vendors don't believe in introducing a new client language because apparently it's hard to get

Also, it's just me or does MIDI.js have the potential to lead the renaissance of midi music on the internet? I had almost forgotten midi files existed if it weren't for this lib.

It's a start. Browsers were not getting any faster before because no one was pushing their boundaries, but nowadays it's a different story. I think we can expect browsers to get a helluva lot faster within the next 3-4 years, specially when

Thank god JSON has taken over XML. I'm sure XML still has its uses, but it simply is way too verbose, and frankly I have yet to find a data structure which representation fits better in a xml like format (besides html, obviously)

My impression from what I've read is that Jeff did work on a linux fork which was known as Google OS internally (I think there were even public news about google working informally on a "Google OS" in 2006-07), but that never really catched

Great read, but I'm not sure why he keeps using the term of Chromebook/Chrome OS. It was more the story of a Google OS which eventually a few years after someone else turned into Chrome OS.
