I assume he suggested Bitcoin because it's still a good way to handle money anonymously. If the person that breached the server wants to remain anonymous but get paid, that's pretty much the only way to go.

Aha, so that's why it made it to the front page. Had it had PHP in the title from the beginning HN would have ignored it completely (sadly).

I read this acquisition as trying to take over as much of internet traffic "market share" as possible. Verizon is well into the online advertising game with AOL, so the larger piece of the pie they own the more control they have,

Right on the nail. To me personally, the moves Reddit has been doing the past couple years read as if they don't know exactly what Reddit should be or what they want it to be. I imagine it's not easy, Reddit is massive and somehow

I upvoted because I'm just now hearing about the whole GoChat story, and because I find amusing how quickly Pokemon Go related apps can blow up right now, but yeah, it is evident that this was primarily a self-promotional post otherwis

SP4 user here too, Windows Hello failed exactly once for me: when I was setting it up. Ever since then it's worked flawlessly. It's so insanely good it's almost hard to believe Microsoft built it. When Android first came up w

I was going to suggest the same. The "prepare-to-shutdown" brain mode could well be that more blood is flowing to the stomach (and thus less to the brain) after a heavy meal.

Could it be that there is some selection bias in this study? I don't mean to say the conclusions are wrong per se, but I would think that people working very few hours (unemployed?) or too many hours (factory workers?) are typically le

Personally I find that services like Mailgun, Mandrill or SES work well enough for this purpose and are not particularly expensive if your volume per month isn't huge. On Mailgun for example you can send up to 10k emails per month for

That's a bit pessimist, isn't it? It's a little bit like saying that living is not worth it because you'll die anyway. I think what we do is not about an indefinite future impact or goal, but about the how it impacts us
