That's an interesting point. Reducing complexity is a top priority right now. I just wanted to ship and start getting some good ol' HN feedback!

Yeah, as I mentioned above we're a web based service. Set your preferences through the site then just use your regular client as per usual and reap the benefits.

Yeah, we're a web based service. We do have some browser extensions in the pipeline though to reduce the need to visit the website.

Looks like we need to work on the messaging. We're not an email client. We're a tool you use with your email client to help control the flow of email.

Hey guys, been on HN for a while, but Lightermail is my (our) first attempt at a startup. Looking forward to any and all feeback from my fellow HNers and answering whatever questions you may have! For those interested in the tech stack, the

Only one of those technologies fills the same role as Postgres and MySQL (_especially_ MySQL Cluster) brings a host of other problems to the table. There is no silver bullet and it ALL comes down to use case.

Why on earth do you think it's failed less than a week after it came out? Also, App Store search is known to be terrible.

If you want the benefits of distributed version control with a very simple user interface I'd highly recommend giving Mercurial a try. A great introduction to Mercurial for people familiar with SVN can be found here http://hginit.com/ . Me

I certainly wasn't trying to imply Apple is being devious by any means. I really am just curious as to where that money will go.

To rebut his claim though you'd need a survey asking people how many times they've had faulty components/hardware. Not how good they feel about the supplier.

Thanks for the feedback! We're not yet A/B testing the landing page yet (working up to a more public push where that will come into play). That's a very interesting point about discussing our competitors instead of ourselves. Xander looks p

Thanks! I'll be sure to make a show HN or something when I do. I still need to add in support for compression, but it's not high on my todo list and I'm sure the community could help.

In terms of managing IMAP connections, async is definitely the way to go. For our product, lightermail.com, I ported Python's imaplib to run on Tornado's ioloop (adding a few features like IDLE support and command pipelining). Not only can

The question is, who and what defines merit in a meritocracy? The article claims that those already in power do and thus it is they that control who gets to move up the ladder.

I don't think Apple gets a pass here. If they are forcing users onto their product it had better be competitive, no matter how hard it is. Microsoft got so such pass with WP7 and that was an entirely new OS/platform!

I've been saying for a while that the only problem with email is one of management. As the volume of incoming emails increases we need better tools to avoid a similar increase in the amount of time we spend checking it. To that end (shamel

I really like the look of this phone. I've been an Android guy since I left my venerable Blackberry Bold 9000, but I find myself really attracted to the interface of WP7/8. With a phone of this build quality, it's enough to make me give it
