Exactly... some arguments you can only have with people you know very well... and sometimes not even then. We're only human after all, and the tribalism runs deep . If you try to have a reasonable discussion with someone about certa

The truth is most of these claims are worthless entirely, and people don't deserve squat. So $125 is infinitely more than they should have gotten. ...Then all the more reason the lawyers who helped them bring the suit in the first pl

I suspect the point is that if the only group which is in any way meaningfully enriched are the lawyers, there is a problem we should be examining in the underlying system. ...A system lobbied for, and legislated by said lawyers.

$125 isn't even that bad, as class actions go... it really is a wildly crooked system.

First of all, thank you, I really appreciate your kind words. Beyond that, I agree utterly about the notion that argument is too often seen as a sport or a "winning" game. The best arguments IMO are ones in which both parties are

I would be utterly shocked if most of the big ones didn't, and I'd be even more shocked if they (along with tobacco companies) had helped to develop techniques now taken for granted in the digital world.

I think the problem is that apparently many people default to some level of potential "internetaholicity"; it explains the insane success of something like FB after all. People take time to recognize the various Skinner Boxes an

You believe that a solution exists, although you also believe that there is no need for one, but if there was "technology" would be that solution. Is that about right?

I think the important takeaway for everyone involved is, "...For all of the good it did them." Will people with a scrap of power never learn? "Any fact that needs to be disclosed should be put out now or as quickly as possi

I don't understand the appeal of FB; we have other means to be connected with the people we care about. I've never understood the appeal of broadcasting yourself to the entire planet either... it's bizarre.

I'm doing my part, no kids, and I won't be having any. Unfortunately human nature isn't going to change, and we're not going to get out of this one with our civilization intact; we're probably cooked.
