Impossible to say. If OpenAI makes it– I think it'll be better for AI safety then with Sam at the helm. But that's a big if. Time will tell.

I very much disagree that it's not intelligent. GPT-4 is clearly intelligent, and we use the lobotomized version of it. So imagine what GPT-5 can do internally. Conscious is hard to say, partly because we can't define it either, s

Former neuroscientist here. Our brain actually uses many different functions for all of these things. Intelligence is incredibly complex. But also, you don't need all of these to have real intelligence. People can problem solve without

Rightfully so? No-one knows. But I sure would trust the scientist leading the endeavor more than a business person that has interest in saying the opposite to avoid immediate regulations.

Never, Elon despised Sam's pivot from non-profit to for-profit. He invested 100M in the beginning.

They said it in the statement, they quoted to chapter of the company that they should focus on AI for the betterment of humanity. I can't say if this will work, but I think the message is pretty clear. No more random product launches l

Maybe. We’re also not open sourcing DNA from viruses, how to build nuclear weapons or 3D printing weapons. I think there is an argument to be made that not every powerful LLM should be open source. But yes- maybe we’re worried about nothing

Both IMO. The first leads to attractong world-class talent that can do the second. Until you go off the rails and the second kicks you out it seems.

This is not petty, it’s the integral mission of the company, the reason it was founded, the reason it got investors and the reason that many of the most brilliant scientists in the world work there. They started as a non-profit ffs.

Neither can you without your short-term memory system. Or your long-term memory system in your hippocampus. People that have lost those abilities still have human level of intelligence.

Objectively speaking, we’re talking exponential growth in both compute and capabilities year over year. Do you have any data that shows that we’ll plateau any time soon? Because if this trend continues, we’ll have superhuman levels of compu

Look at what he did instead: Took the open out of openai. Started with regulatory capture, so that no competitors could follow. Deal with Microsoft. Shade non-profit/for-profict company structure. Elon Musk lawsuit. My feeling is that

It sounds like this was the issue. Even Elon Musk, for all his flaws, strongly disagreed with the direction of 'open'AI. Ilya siding with the board and the board having no financial interests leads me to think that Sam was hiding

My guess is he's the right person to run closedai, but not openai. Board has no financial interest in the company, and wanted to stay true to its initial goal.

About the M3 pro, I’ve heard a theory it’s most likely due to lower yields by TSMC and M2 pro and max being too similar. Now it’s clearly, if you really need perf you get an M3 max.
