I do, in a huge way. I became a single parent when my youngest was still a baby. I was juggling my career, my family, and my home all by myself. It was brutal and I felt incredibly lonely and isolated. Every time I tried to find services or

Their refund system is great. Any time I've gotten something subpar I've messaged the seller and had my money back in days with zero hassle.

One sample is hard to read because even low odds can happen. Picture the following statement: "The chance of life forming anywhere in the universe over a 100 billion year period is equal to 1 in Graham's number". If this stat

The jump to the start of unicellular life seems like the big stumbling block. It might be so incredibly rare that it's lucky for it to even happen once in the universe.

I'd wager that the vast majority of bad behaviour is still swept under the rug and/or condoned. Just because there has been a few visible cases doesn't mean we're eliminating the problem.

I view it largely like I view how we currently treat our disadvantaged. Put them into ghettos, neglect them as much as humanly possible, etc.

The bigger issue is what will happen if our children don't need to work hard. A world where 95% of people don't need to work at all sounds great until we factor in wealth inequality.

This isn't just the military. Corporations rarely are held 100% accountable for the damage they do. The only person who cares about individuals are individuals.

In 18 months I'm moving somewhere with not amazing job prospects due to an arrangement with my ex-wife about our kids. It's not a legal arrangement but I take promises seriously. My children are a higher priority than my career. I

Per capita may be $225 but gambling isn't distributed evenly through the population. I live in a country with very relaxed laws and I've seen the social problems that unrestricted gambling leads to.

If cheaper automation drives down these wages far enough then it won't matter if the people have a job or not. $3 per hour would be similar to no job.

I thought about this for a little bit, I might actually code up a demo. If you take a random number between the square of min and the square of max, then you make your polar r equal to square root of your random number.

Why can't you simply generate two random numbers with one between 0 and 2pi, and the second between the min and max of distance? Now you've got polar coordinates. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if this is overe

What I mean is that your initial outlay either needed capital or a loan. This is money that could have been invested, with electricity bills taken out of that kitty. What's confusing me here is that you've said you've been sa

How do you calculate savings at the 11-year mark? If you'd invested the same amount in index funds over an 11 year period you'd see your money double in an approximately 10 year period.

Having the rest of my life ahead of me is a great feeling. I'm still only 33 and I already see people my age that appear to have given up on living their best life. I feel what makes the 20's great for most is that they have the e

The phase of the life issue is touched upon in the link. It discusses how the accelerated kids are often happy because they have new peers who have similar interests. It's a difficult issue to solve. A 7-year-old who is 4 years ahead o

There was an experiment in the USA about a school given unlimited funding. It didn't help grades or any other metric they measures. Look up the Kansas school district experiment.

In Australia we have widespread legal gambling. We have all sorts of laws about where you can even place ATMs near gambling facilities. If the laws made it legal I'm positive we'd have loan shops next to gambling facilities.

In support of your comment, when talking about weight it's common to talk about "fast metabolisms" keeping people skinny. Studies have shown that metabolisms don't vary much at all. What does vary is how hunger signals w
