On Bing: Hamburger menu > Customize my homepage > uncheck the 3 boxes Same clutter as google. Yes, you can complain about the default, but Bing makes this pretty darn easy.

Dumb question, but why don't people[1] use Chromium instead of Chrome (or Edge)? Does it still send data to Google? [1] - I'm presuming HN people, not moms & dads.

That's an interesting thought. I prefer to use the word "de-globalization", which covers some of the same effects.

> Withdrawing from a 401(k) has no real effect. Highly disagree here.... First, selling stocks puts downward pressure on price and also p/e ratio. A lower p/e ratio means startups and growth companies trade at lower multiples.

Unfortunately, the world is scheduled to end (or reboot if you prefer) at 03:14:07 UTC on January 19th, 2038. [0] So, that means that the remake of an OS that we call a browser is likely to be the pinnacle of computing for our lifetimes. Ho

Lots of people here are focusing on the size of the deal, which is admittedly large. However, the terms are just as important.... FTA - " The proposed settlement would be paid out over 25 years " Inflation alone will wipe a big

So, if it's only 3-5% slower, then for $50-100 I could buy a slightly faster processor and never know the difference? Just trying to check my understanding of what the 3-5% delta is. Seems like a tiny tradeoff for any workstation (I w

Dumb question - how much does the curl project need? I see lots of people saying this is basically like crumbs for pigeons, but no idea what a fully funded curl project would be.

I think they should go to LTT instead. They're both Canadian, and the name is less relevant than the brand. If they got it ironed out before April 10th, they probably could put a link to it.

You've got that backwards. Reread the tweet you linked to: "Only 2.7% of SVB deposits are less than $250,000 . Meaning, 97.3% aren't FDIC insured." Not a good situation at all.

I agree with what you're saying, but everyone misses a key point: There is no algorithm. Rather, there are tons of algorithms. Hear me out... If you really want to what a company is doing, then you have to go back to the data ingesti

This is a great article. Lyn goes in depth, and does a pretty good job of explaining something that's fairly intricate. In short, the Fed pays its profit to the Treasury department by law. When the Fed is making a loss instead of a pro

Your comment makes me wonder - what would happen if they did that every day? And then, perhaps, trained an AI on those responses, updating it every day. I wonder if they could train it to learn that some things (e.g. weather) change freque

Sub reactors weigh around 100 tons. Not sure how relevant that is, but certainly liftable. EDIT: Meant to add - much less than the ISS, and I presume multiple launches would be needed. Possible, yes; but practical? not sure.
