Thanks! The profiles are public by default and there is a setting to make it private, which would show only limited information to the public just so that someone can identify you when they are looking to friend you.

To an extent I am relying on users input. I imported a beer database I had of around 3,500 beers...though it didn't have many common ones and I am continuing to fill them in. The grid with pictures of bottles/logos is a feature I definitel

I am using MongoHQ to get up and running. The recommended setup for deploying MongoDB on EC2 is a little too much overhead right now and I am not a sysadmin. If everything is going well and I start to notice performance issues on MongoHQ,

Have you checked out SimpleGeo? I believe their places have Neighborhood info available but not sure if you can filter on it.
