> take a sample of their saliva, run it through a very expensive machine for a few days and decode the results with a supercomputer You are probably thinking about PCR [0]. The PCR thermocycler is now a very very cheap machine (~ 200$).

No need. It's enough to simply lose your job.

Meta is not just a company name. Look at how it's used: https://github.com/search?q=repo%3Atorvalds%2Flinux%20meta&t...

If we program computers, it doesn't mean we don't have other jobs unrelated to programming. (At least for some of us.)

I would be interested to know what's the risk of explosion. If something bad happens, it would upgrade the meaning of "shit hits the fan".

Fetching anything from the internet means some cloud knows what games I'm playing. It's a privacy risk. Games played are very revealing to personality type, and probably lots of other individual info, and that means the temptation

The example site is "Access denied". Looking at the other problems posted here, it's very clear that I won't ever touch it.

A very good example! Opera House had (possibly still have, I heard they did a redecoration [1]) very big issues with acoustics. It's bad functionality directly caused by aesthetics. [1] https://thespaces.com/sydney-oper

Not only that, but MS-DOS was mostly a filesystem driver, just like the name said. All the rest came from BIOS interrupts.

I got so used to "cd..", that even now, after 10+ years of linux, I still sometimes type it wrong without a space.

Just look at this as a step forward for natural selection. Anti-vaxers will remove themselves from the gene pool.

Yes, you will! Nothing will stand in the way of profit , especially if the clients are desperate.

11.5% is the total. My question was how many of them actually receive any benefits? Or, even better, how much of the budget is spent on benefits for those that don't work?

Don't you know the answer already? You will have to work more and more, your coworkers will be fired one by one, supposedly replaced by AI, you will take over their work too, then at some point will will be fired too, won't be abl

Win9x was stable and reliable. It was the drivers that were not. WHQL wasn't invented yet. I'm sure ATC systems were properly tested, including the drivers. Don't compare that with cheap consumer PCs that we had.

If it uses any digital hardware directly accessed by software (something that Win9x still allowed, see DOS games w/ ISA sound cards), it makes virtualization impossible.

I'm opposed to any common solution. It invites automated zero-day exploits that would DoS everything, everywhere, at the same time.

And all that could be avoided by simply demagnetizing the strip. Or convincing the banks to deprecate that kind of cards and readers. I can't imagine why they didn't do it already.
