I immediately found the quote "never take software advice from a bug tracking system salesman" an ad-hominem attack. It doesn't address at all why the advice would be bad.

I maintain an in-house developed 'enterprise database app'. When someone suggests new additions to this app, I tell him/her to use Excel to test their idea for a few weeks first, and then ask again. This gives a pretty good idea what they

This reminds me of phorid flies, the natural enemy of the fire ant. The larva of a phorid fly eats its way into the head of the ant, decapitates the ant by dissolving its neck with enzymes, then cocoons in the head. http://en.wikipedia.or

Maybe he should have announced it as 'Freedom Unix'? That way 'free' wouldn't have been interpreted as in 'free beer' ;-)

I buy my 'green' servers for 900 euro or so, and the colocation costs are 25 euro per month. I place big (media)files on the Amazon S3/Cloudfront. $1k/year for a dedicated server sounds a bit expensive to me.

Nowadays participation mostly depends on gear, not abilities. Parties will seek players with for example "at least 5K GS", which means 5000 GearScore points according to a popular GearScore AddOn which analyzes your equipment. The Dungeon F

I quite liked NT 3.5 as a development platform back then. I came from WfW 3.11 and used Borland C++ 4.5, and nasty programming bugs would hang 3.11, but not NT 3.5.

On paper, serifs can be printed with enough resolution to aid in readability. On screens however, serifs are rendered too coarse and distract. That's why with current screen resolutions, sans serif works better for screen type.

I love fountain pens. I have bunch of Parker 'Vectors' in a diversity of line widths and ink colors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parker_Vector The only disadvantage is that the ink stays water-soluble after it dries.

They should have ported the standard shell, /bin/sh, which is still used for executing most scripts (via the #!/bin/sh shebang at the top of the script), independent of what shell the user uses interactively.

Nowadays I use SSDs in all my home machines (MacMini, laptop, gaming desktop). It really speeded them up, since seek times are so much faster. My unix server runs with a SSD for more than a year now, and I haven't had any problems with it.
