I'm currently using a System76 laptop, but it's for sure my last one. The build quality is pretty poor and the touchpad is so annoying that I disabled it. When the fan broke and had to be replaced I had to take over the shipping c

You could use microg, then nothing goes to Google. https://lineage.microg.org – This together with yalp gives you a good experience and keeps you private.

I think a drone id is a good thing, but not to identify criminals. They’d reset the id or falsify it. It would be helpful to monitor drone airspace though, e.g. to see who’s using drones too close to restricted zones etc.

We have a Redis+Memcached frontend with an Apache Ignite Backend. Now we can re-use existing functionality in the clients and have new features like read-through based on a MySQL database or an automatically updated near cache on the instan

I’m living in SG 5 years now, moved in from Europe. You get used to the temperature outside (Took me two months to get adjusted), so wearing long trousers and a shirt is ok now. That also works for inside. When I’m back home now everything

Wow, that’s awesome, I was looking for something like this a while ago to visualize a state machine. I ended up using graphviz, but I’ll have a look at mermaid for presentations, my diagrams always look super embarrassing.

Last time I was at Google for a workshop (If you have the chance to visit Google, do it. The food alone is worth it), they didn’t seem to push CloudSQL a lot, because they wanted to guide people more in the spanner direction. Without a soli

Most of the whois hiding services cost money, so if I get this “service” for free now, I don’t have much sympathy with the whois guys. If it’s about contacting people, they could make the abuse@ or webmaster@ address mandatory, then you can

We have PayWave in Singapore where you can just swipe your credit card for amounts under 100$, but most of the time you have to wait pretty long for the approval to go through, it feels a bit like the time benefit is eaten up by that. Only

Is there any open source S3 compatible software? I know Riak Cloud Storage ( http://docs.basho.com/riak/cs/2.1.1/ ), but I think it’s not maintained anymore.

Responsible and ethical are usually not words which are used together with Uber, but in this case it seems like it was simply an accident. Computers cannot beat Physics, if the woman suddenly stepped in front of a car which is unable to bra

That would make sense, instead of breaking the cog-setup, the little plastic part breaks off and saves the motor. Thank you for the explanation, one conspiracy theory less!

Those cafes are a great idea! I recently opened a high quality blender (forgot the brand) and found a cog made partially of metal with one small part made of plastic which will break first due to wear and tear. Otherwise this little motor w

Yes I understand that they want to offer their services in Europe, but the servers are in the US and billing is also not handled by a European branch company afaik. I’m really just wanted to know if and how the EU could force GitHub to comp
