Alcohol requires an astronomical intake compared to most drugs, and I'd say the indiscriminate action and lack of any particular affinity is what makes it a poison as opposed to a drug. It is also generally assumed that alcohol is not

Alcohol is a poison, not a drug, but I also think so. I honestly wish mind-altering drugs were more accessible sometimes, mostly because of safety. Millions are killed by adulterants in their street drugs.

That was really fast, they only announced it like a day or two ago IIRC? Also: no screenshots of the redesigned interface?!

Pets get a cone of shame in order to help wounds heal faster? I thought the cone of shame was to prevent biting/picking at the wound.

It's not possible to prove the user is anything ever. It probably never will be. Likely what will happen instead is that the person in the ID will become personally liable for accounts verified with that ID. Which is even more reason t

I heard that a relative lack of air conditioners in the UK made the higher temperatures hit them proportionally more than the US too. In both cases my point is that of course it's shocking to suddenly hit circumstances you're unpr

This reminds me of when people were calling the UK a bunch of wimps for complaining about record high heat of like 80F, just because Americans have been dealing with 100F or more for years (over 100 years in some cases). So what that prices

Isn't that a feature of the share menu itself? It likes to try to be "compatible" with whatever you're sharing it with. So if you try to share a video to Discord, it'll try to compress the video to fit within Discor

I don't think I had the issue before macOS 26, but honestly I have no way to tell. I did run into one other HN commenter that suffers from the same slowness problem, but they didn't connect it to workloads, only uptime. I think it

Even if I were behind CGNAT (which I'm not), you don't see that message if you're already blocked. They won't even serve you the signup page then.

For me the operating system (and ecosystem in general) is one of the biggest reasons I use a Mac, but the unified memory pool is a benefit too. I am still distraught about the gaming situation though.

I wonder why Apple has not really pushed their memory bandwidth numbers. They're starting to catch up to 2020 at this point -- cool, but still struggling to run years-old models. (FLOPS is even further behind by a year or two) Maybe th

An infinite loop in JavaScript causes a different issue. It doesn't cause the rest of your tabs to stop working too. Or allegedly the entire rest of the OS though I can't reproduce that.
