Whenever I hear about a new Framework launch it makes me think of the Sandbenders computer in Idoru[1] by William Gibson. Nice to see sustainable, reparable and upgradable laptops come to market. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/

I've never ridden an eBike as they don't really appeal to me but I kind of think that everyone has a right to be on the trails regardless of fitness.

Tricky I think but maybe. You generally have a fixed wheel on a unicycle. That would make derailleur gears harder to implement as they'd normally work with a freehub of some kind. Hub gears like a Sturmey-Archer generally need to zero

I'm not saying I never break traffic rules, I'm saying I don't deliberately do so. I don't run through red lights or use my mobile phone. Not sure why that would make me difficult to drive around. If I'm on a moto

That's a strawman argument. EDIT: I make it a point of honour to try to stick to the Highway Code whether on my bike or in my car. Still random drivers harass me when I'm on my bike. I had someone lean out of a car and try to p

If repairable was mandated by law the price for it would fall fast. Desktop PCs, for example, are both cheap and repairable because of standardisation. People will happily roll the dice on dangerous products if they’re only slightly cheaper

What's the downside for you? If you don't care just ignore it. Having the option, even if rarely used, is a good signal to bean counters that cutting corners on safety or quality or even leg room is unacceptable.

I'm not sure I'd recommend DrySchema or DryValidation. I've had real problems upgrading client's projects built using DryValidation prior to v1 in the past. They changed the syntax of the validations just enough to break

I think a Dualit is what you want. I have a 4 slice Dualit[1] I bought in 2004 and it still works perfectly. It's an unchanging point of reliability in our kitchen. The Classic model is basically an old catering toaster design from the

Yeah but it’s a small island. If you learn Vim you’ll have access to Vi and Vi-like interfaces in lots of other software including terminals, database clients and everything that uses readline.

A nice Indian lady I used to work with was horrified when I pointed out that her use of the "eye rolling" emoji is seen as rude and dismissive by lots of people. It's always worth being aware of these differences if you can b

I'm not sure what it means about me that I can't tell if you're joking or not. As a Brit I have one friend I've known since childhood I'd call "brother" unironically. Even then I'd probably have to h

Not sure where you're going with that analogy. Where I live knives designed primarily for killing humans are illegal to sell, sometimes illegal to own and definitely illegal to carry in public. That's stuff like commando, flick or

I’ve just returned to a MBP from an XPS13 running various flavours of Linux. I’d suggest that there’s lots of little things you miss on a refurbished Lenovo vs an Apple Silicon mac. Eg better battery management, better screen handling, bett

It's crazy to me that this isn't a bigger story. Here in the UK it's not really been mentioned on the news (that I've come across). Ebay is massive site here, the Beeb should have this as a front page news story.

I agree, navigating blame history is incredibly useful, if only to save you from asking the wrong person about a particular change. Vim's Fugitive[1] can do this and also in Textmate to. So I would hope that most editor git plugins ca

I don't think you can argue that you personally don't care about ruby. You wouldn't spend so much of your time reading and writing about ruby if you didn't care about it. You'd move to things you do care about. Rub

It's not that you should factor them out but if C is actually doing the work you can call the same excellent libraries from Ruby too. e.g. Numo for NumPy or Ruby-Polars for python polars.
