I think a lot of that comes down to cost. If we can drop the price of electricity enough it will naturally become the favoured choice for heating and transportation too.

Memento mori. Death is inevitable but worrying constantly about it, whether your own or your loved ones, is no way to live. As I get older and as my parents get older I take comfort from that.

Yep I agree, I think people haven’t woken up to that yet. Moore’s Law is only going to make that easier. I’m surprised by how good the models I can run on my old M1 Max laptop are. In a year’s time open models on something like a Mac Studio

That ignores the possibility that local inference gets good enough to run without a subscription on reasonably priced hardware. I don't think that's too far away. Anthropic, OpenAI, etc. are pushing the idea that you need a subsc

I'm a big fan of the current range of French Renault electric cars. The 5, 4, Megan and Scenic are just excellent. I think the Scenic is probably the one I'd buy right now based on the range, 380 miles but the 5 and the 4 have so

Brits are no strangers to the Citroen C15 as the article seems to imply. We liked them. It was the basis of a successful line of British built micro-campers from Romahome. https://www.practicalmotorhome.com/advice/used

Yep, as it is some sizes are easier to work with. Domestic drill sets don't seem to be designed for tapping holes but if you stick to M3, M6 and M10 the tapping sizes do correspond with the 2.5, 5 and 8.5mm drills[1]. I guess if it was

That's a good question. I guess it could be depth of discussion but in the end they both come down to trust. I guess unless you have an offline system you are at the mercy of whoever is running the services you use.

I have a diesel car and in theory you could fuel it with used cooking oil if you needed to. I don't think I'm likely to do that as I think this would gum up the engine but I know people that have told me they've done it with

This actually highlights a big privacy problem with health AI. Say I’m interested in some condition and want to know more about it so I ask a chatbot about it. It decides “asking for a friend” means I actually have that condition and then s

It’s an unpleasant experience to have people who think they know you but clearly don’t project their opinions of what they think you’re like. It’s probably a very human trait to do that but it is a bad habit.

I don’t think “giving away” has much to do with it. I mean we did give away code as training data but we also know that AI companies just took pirated books and media too. So I don’t think gifting has much to do with it. Next all the Copilo

You're assuming that VW is following the GDPR. In 2024 when they got hacked it turned out they were gathering (and "lost") a great deal of user data that they weren't supposed to. https://cybersecuritynews.com

I think they've missed a trick there, they could have used `|` like low-type does. e.g. def greet(name: String | "Hello"): String I know it's all subjective but I think that reads better and it's valid ruby.
